"But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,"? Bible-grumble all people want, but if many didn't know it came from Christ, that verse would receive a lot more hugs. Yeah, there are other things in the book that make people sweat and tug their collar, but I'm surprised you're faulting the reasonability of this assertion.
I used to believe that quote was full of love and mercy too, but look closer. It teaches us to glorify bullies, congratulate thugs, and show compassion to those who deserve none. Its simple to spew bible quotes, but would you actually put any of this to practice? Next time you're getting mugged, thank him and offer to bring him home so that he can loot your house too. A bit extreme, but isn't that loving your enemy? Ultimately, this practice would only be practical if absolutely everybody followed it, but that'll never happen.
