The State of the Union initiatives proposed by Bush last night will drive up discretionary spending far more rapidly than his recent White House predecessors The Washington Times is reporting this morning.

WashTimes.com "Early projections indicate passage of Mr. Bush's proposals will increase non-defense spending well beyond the 4 percent to 5 percent the administration has budgeted for the current fiscal year, nearly double the average annual increases of about 2.5 percent by President Clinton during his two terms." Indeed, it seemed as thought the theme of last night's address was more "I want to do everything to make everyone happy about anything in the next year." I've seen quite a few of these addresses by now, and I have to say this one was by-far the most reaching, grandiose, heavy-spending, campaign-speech-as-State-of-the-Union I've ever seen.
