BAE clinches £20bn Typhoon deal with Saudi Arabia

observer.guardian.co.uk

Aerospace giant BAE is part of a consortium that has clinched a £40bn contract to supply 72 Eurofighter Typhoons to Saudi Arabia in the world's biggest defence deal.

The aircraft will replace the Tornados bought by the Saudis under the al-Yamamah oil-for-arms package agreed when Mrs Thatcher was Prime Minister in 1984. The Typhoon transaction will be worth £20bn to BAE over the next 20 years.

Quite interesting, given the news earlier this year of the probe into BAE over alleged bribes/slush funds for the Tornado deal in the 1980s.

Still, this will probably mean that the RAF will get its full order of Typhoons now.

Wasnt this the deal that the Saudi Ambassador to the US Bandar bin Sultan
had to resign over after taking millions in kickbacks?
