Mexican truckers want to suspend pilot program in U.S.

U.S. truckers aren't the only ones upset with a cross-border pilot program allowing long-haul Mexican tractor-trailers into the United States.

Truckers south of the border aren't thrilled with it either.

The private organization representing the majority of Mexico's freight haulers on Thursday demanded the government suspend the program, saying it leaves Mexican truckers at a competitive disadvantage with their U.S. counterparts.

US Truckers don't want this, Mexican Truckers don't want this, who is forcing this down our collective throats?

Maybe some BIG businesses? I don't know but thought it was interesting to see that there is opposition to this program in Mexico.

So both sides say they are at a competitive disadvantage with the other?

Is the traffic bottleneck the disadvantage they're talking about?

I can't seem to reason what other disadvantage they may be at other than clients wanting to make sure their cargo arrives by truck not tow.

They said they couldn't enforce some of the provisions, mainly making sure that the US does not carry mexican goods on their trucks in Mexico.

It seems that they need more manpower and funding so they can inspect the cargo in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

That's what I got out of the piece. (2nd linked article in OP)

Hope that helps....
