US plans base on Iraq-Iran border

news.bbc.co.uk

The US military is planning to build its first base near Iraq's border with Iran in order to curb the alleged flow of weapons to Shia militants in Iraq.

Maj Gen Rick Lynch told the Wall Street Journal that the base would be located 6.4km (four miles) from the border and house at least 200 US soldiers.

US forces also plan to build fortified checkpoints on major roads leading to Baghdad from Iran, Gen Lynch said.

Is this really just going to be used as an attempt to stop the flow of weapons coming into Iraq from Iran? ...or is there another reason for this new base to be built on the Iran border?

This cannot bode well. One shell attack and it's go time on Iran. They will stop at nothing to get at their nuc ops. Why don't they just put up a day care of teletubbies on the border. This really stinks.
