I have long had an interest for Che, since watching Motorcycle Diaries. I later read a book about his life and the impression i got was that he was a great person with leadership qualities who spoke out against injustice. Nonetheless thats just one book, and i am aware that a lot of people dislike him, for one the US government does because he was going against the CIA, others dislike him because they say he was a socialist or communist. Anyway i would like to know what you guys think of him, is he good, bad, why?

Che was a man who oversaw the death of many enemies when he became Supreme Prosecutor, a few months after the revolution in Cuba. Above all things, he was a ruthless man who believed in Marxism. I don't think he is the amazing man that everyone thinks he is.

Me too. I think he was basically a good guy, with guts too. See that famous pic of him - the one on all the t-shirts etc? Gorgeous! I'm not kidding either.

I pretty much agree with MacDonagh, he was a terrorist and a thug plain and simple. He was no different then Batista's men who killed people and raided villages for fun.

This guy was such a sick puppy that he had his bedroom built right next to the torture chamber so that he could watch people being tortured whenever he was bored. Yeah, he was a great guy

yes... except che did the things in the name of what he thought was right, not for fun

MYTH.

ok, my opinion. che was a great person who gave into marxism instead of a more polite form of socialism due to the desperate situation in south and central america that had been caused by capitalism

i honestly think that cuba would be quite the nice place if he were still alive

I saw a documentary of his life and he change his point of views from a very young age when he as a young doctor left the safety of his well to do life and saw the realities behind the poverty, sickness and corruption in the nations he had contact with.

He was not tug, he was an educated man and he was not communist, he was more of a socialist looking for equal treatment and unification of south America.

Is very sad when people post comments without knowing the real facts and just post in order to defend the status quo that our nation wants to keep.

IMHO, Che was a criminal who justified the murder of innocents and the destruction of property for "the cause"...

...But boy, he sure does look heroic in that picture!

Ask anyone who escaped from Cuba ...

I really dont see how some of you can be so blind and oblivious to people like Che, Hugo Chavez, the Iranian president, etc. Just because they are standing up to the big bad USA dosent mean they are good people. Hitler also stood up to the imperialist Zionist loving Americans, I suppose he was a nice guy to ...

Che good or bad? That’s a over simplification is it not?
My thought is like everyone else his is both. In real life people are both good and bad.
Che did the best he could by over-throwing Batista, that would be good, yet he killed a lot of people in the process, bad. He wanted to redistribute the wealth so the rich weren’t so rich and the poor weren’t so poor, good. He stole a lot of people land and money, bad.
So the answer is che was human just like everyone else

I'd have to say I most agree with the comments of marg6043 and Mr Mxyztplk, while Che is used as an icon for revolution, social statements etc, many times by people that have no idea what he stood for, this is nonetheless not for any simple reason. Che came from a pretty decent family in Argentina, and he was on his way to becoming a doctor. Until he took trips all over south America, one particular trip, probably his most famous is portrayed in the movie Motorcycle Diaries, (one of my favorite movies btw). Anyway in these trips he learned about all the corruption in South American politics, especially how the CIA would simple take over governments with force and install dictators to protect their interests. In particular what happened in Bolivia, which he lived through and almost got killed for i believe protesting against the overtake. After this event he really began to realize all the injustice and how the poor were being cheated and robbed. From here on he flees to Mexico where he joins Castro in the planning of the Cuban revolution. I think Che was a person with courage, who left everything behind, his safe career, his family, his country, to fight for something he believed in. And i think at this time guerrilla rebellion was the only way to get something done. (Maybe not, but the most effective i think) I have never heard of Che torturing people, and that might be because i have not read or seen too much material on the guy, but if its true i do condone him for that. I also want to point out that Che was a huge enemy of the CIA, so I think we must double check our info we got from US sources etc, because he was an enemy to the US's capitalist interests. Well that so far is my take on this, i welcome any other opinions and info that will help me understand this better, as I can change my mind with every other post sometimes, lol.
