Well, that's the whole idea! There is no other alternative than to colonize not only other planets in our Solar System, but other systems too. Other planets may be terraformed to harbor life, but all this would take considerable time - probably a couple of thousand years from now.

But considering the pace of the destruction of our environment, this will need to be done sooner than later before it's too late!

Now the question is, was the Earth terraformed too in the distant past?

Cheers!

Right, but I'm pretty adamanant in the idea that we could have bases/production facilities on the moon (get some "fuel efficient" space vehicles running from the moon), start our way to bring materials to mars to build some domes there. And get a mining facility going somewhere around the asteroid belt... all within the next 50 years, should Those Preteens That Be stop playing (gi.joe) with themselves and start playing legos with everyone. This is all considering we really are alone and our tech is supreme of the universe, and we have no help once gettin going. 50 years, easily.

Even so, yes I'm also steadfast in the belief that we have thousands to hundreds of thousands of years of resources left/potentially on this planet. Of course, we gotta get off black gold cuz it really doesn't matter if we have resources or not if our planet is inhospitable to us. (sigh money)

Yes, terraforming planets is what we need to start doing, but that doesn't mean we cant make domes on them while the world around the domes transforms into something we can flourish on.

I really haven't looked hard into terraforming, but are there any clues as to a terraformed planet? Like how a farm gets tilled and has neat rows of soil from combining, etc? I'll look into it more (any pointers?), but really - artificial living quarters are achievable now, not in thousands of years.

*i don't mean to try to make your ideas look as understatements, Mike. I mean, I've been around reading a lot of your ideas lately, and it would be impossible for me atm, imo, to make you look a fool. I just put 2 and 2 together... and well 4 = space coloniztion is an easy (well, relatively speaking) thing to do for us now, and it's just a waste that we aint even preparing to do it. I really actually had faith in Bush once when he said he was going to start looking at the moon (military bases or not)... of course, this faith was short-lived, I still thought, "wow, this is it guys."

That is what crossed my mind also.

Though, with all the planets out there, you would think there would be no need for doing this in our solar system. Going one step further, if there are ET's around, we seem to be in some sort of quarantine. If not, we would already have open contact.

I dunno what to make of this so called object half the size of Jupiter.... it's no way a Mothership because thats just ridiculous to even suggest it... however, it could well be another planet moving through the Solar System.... a possible Alien planet... and those cigar shaped objects must be huge!!! Alien craft possibly picking up Energy from the rings of Saturn or they are just there in the rings and always have been.....

The Rama series was awesome.

Best series I ever read in the entire genre of sci-fi.

Glad you mentioned it.

No - the gravitational perturbations a planet passing through our solar system would cause would massively affect every other thing in the solar system, possibly flinging things out of the system, or into the sun. There is no possible way that could have happened without us knowing.

Sounds like an amazing book
would definately read that and yes that could happen soon.. isnt Betelgeuse going supernova? which means eventually the entire planet will be enveloped in eternal light

Wow, thanks. That post is two years old, and I totally forgot about it. Thanks for your comment. That's not a book, that's just the way my mind works. Anything is possible, we just need to use our imaginations to make it happen.

I believe that extra-terrestrial intelligence does exist. If one considers the possibilities, it has to. I also believe that some of that ET intelligence is far more advanced than that of ours. Whether they have used that knowledge to visit our little corner of the universe, I can't say. I want to believe that we have been visited, but to be quite honest, until we have a mass public sighting, with multiple angle shots of video and photo, I can't say we been. We have had some compelling images, but keep in mind that we have the technology to make anything look real.

When the space programs of the world start moving forward, we might be able to realize our dreams, but until then, we are doomed to this Earth.

Thanks mikesingh for the terrific post! As most of us already know, amongst the many theories surrounding the origin of our moon, is that it is hollow and was placed in its orbit around our planet, by a highly advanced e.t. race. Now upon seeing the size of the craft photographed alongside Saturn's rings, the theory that our moon itself is a spacecraft, doesn't appear to me to be as farfetched as I had thought it to be. The photographs are most interesting, and definately food for thought. The size of those craft, if indeed that's what they are, also add credence to the "Tether Incident", by showing space craft with a diameter of two or three miles, to be rather small in comparison, and now much more believable than before. Again, I thank you!
