UK scientists have applied for permission to create embryos by fusing human DNA with cow eggs.

news.bbc.co.uk...

A very strange story indeed, at this stage it's just an application for permission, but it wouldn't shock me too much if they got the green light, as they are merging human DNA, not human embryos. The idea of using human embryos is probably a no-go (and the article says they are in short supply anyway), so it looks like they are going to try with DNA.

This sounds like a step too far to me, even if it is only for a few days.

LOL, its not about making human-cow hybrids. Perhaps you did not read it fully.
Its a way of harvesting stem cells which are used in treating diseases. UK finally allowed the research to start, which is a good move and will make medical science progress a lot faster.

Well, in my view mixing together a cow egg, and human DNA is making a hybrid, no matter if it's only allowed to 'live' for a few days.

well why don't they just extract stem cells out of babies umbilical cords...

i mean i don't care, but I think its just stupid they're wasting so much money..to find a solution, when they already have a solution...
