NEWARK, Sept. 5 — A New Jersey county judge in a ruling in a lawsuit on Wednesday gave the state one week to figure out how to create a paper trail for its 10,000 electronic voting machines, saying that under the current system they are vulnerable to tampering, the state attorney general’s office said.
In 2005, the Legislature passed a law requiring all electronic machines to produce paper records by Jan. 1, 2008.
