It would have to be a high temperature too "zap" the birds

temperature would have nothing to do with it...its the frequency and strength of emission which relates the "beam's" ability to excite molecules in the target
(or whatever it is broadcast upon)..I worked with some
*very* powerful radar systems that was said if you got in the field you could actually feel it, but everyone stayed clear of test beams because the radiation would make you sick (very).
