Why doesn't our military secretly employ a tremendous number of mercinaries to carry out strikes against our enemies in Iraq and Afganistan ? The US public could be left in the dark very easily and paying "expendable" hired guns would not be a problem. Bush would love to avoid more troop deployment questions, and could credit US forces for any progress.

Well, if you know where 160,000 mercinaries are, phone that one in to the oval office, I'm sure he'd love to put them to use!

Comming up with half that number, I honestly think would be possible. Africa, Central America, the former USSR, Australia, Turkey, Egypt, and Jordan all have some unemployed comandos. There has to be plenty of fighters who would love to be paid non taxed wages from a blacks opps coffer. Just my opinion. I'm deffinitely not a Bush supporter and would put nothing past W's crew.

Yep, the last I heard was that there were about 25,000 contractors that are in Iraq for combat, may be more or less now. They perform certain functions for the military like escort, guarding etc..

Remember the incident that started the major battle nicknamed Fallujha I?
Some mercs were performing a mission for the military when their suburban was fired on, their burning bodies were pulled out, dragged down the street and then hung off of the bridge.

I've been just waiting for them to offer the illegal immigrants an offer of a green card for active service in the military.
I'm sure it must have crossed someones mind.
Theres a huge untapped resource of healthy strong young men and everybodys whinging they take but give nothing back to this country.
I bet there'd be a lot of takers.

I think when when someone mentioned mercinaries, they had something a little different in mind than high tech cab drivers and escorts.

Thanks for the source Lexion. I was suggesting mercinaries doing actual independent missions on their own. Iraq is bloody hot, potential language barriors, and locating the enemie's strongholds might make this plan impossible.
I wouldn't put anything past our government especially when i any direct involvement can be denied.

Having served in Iraq myself i think you will find enough mercenaries and enough private security companies as it is

bearclaw I will assume from your name and posting that you have a particular interest in this subject as you something you want to do.

can you imagine the s*storm that would explode WHEN, not if the story of other countries criminals running ops for the US gov. broke? get real. there is no place for DA, snatch and grab, or any similar missions for anyone that hasnt sworn an oath.

as to the security companies and contractors working there now, everyone has there place and purpose. once you've done it - then youll understand. same as having been there.

Thank you for responding to my thread. My member name comes from my love of bearclaw pastries, and 70 is the year i was born. So no, I would not want do do any fighting over seas for money. I have utter respect for anyone in all branches of the US military as well as other countrie's men and women who serve in the same capacity. That goes for peace officers as well. I would not be surprised personally if non tax payer, non traceable, cashola would finace trained fighters from other counties to do some heavy fighting to secure areas in Afganistan or Iraq. Why ? because this isnt a popular war by any stretch, its very expensive, and encumbants want to be elected for anther term. It has to be sold to the American as an ongoing, slow, success for our country if it is to continue. Considering JFK was assisinated by our government, the CIA has been finacing gorilla military action with drug money for who knows how long, NASA is largely a sham, 911 is saturated with coinsidences no one will bring up on the nightly news. It just wouldnt surprise me to see Uncle Sam pay a lot of mercs to tip the scale in our favor so to speak.

It's not just mercs that are already out in the middle east, doing stuff, there are militant groups being paid/helped too. For example it's been claimed that Jundallah are being used in Iran (blogs.abcnews.com...). I never like the sounds of this, as helping out these kind of groups always seems to backfire, it's fine in the short term, but long term how many of the groups the US helped have then become against the US later on? Kind of like how half the guns that were pumped into afghanistan to help out against the russians are now firing on US troops.
