(SkyNews)-Plans to tag a killer asteroid to stop it slamming into Earth are being submitted by teams of scientists across the world.

The asteroid Apophis is a 300-metre wide lump of rock and ice that looks to be on course to hit our planet in 2036.

2005 YU55 is going to be pretty close in 2010 and again in 2011 also. It would probably be a good idea to get a good helmet.

See the table toward the bottom of the page.

Your link is stubborn, copy and paste to use it.

As far as the asteroid, it's been pretty much common knowledge for some time now. If NASA could reach around and pull their heads out of their behinds and get a move on, then something could possibly be done the first time around to adjust the orbital pattern of the rock in such a way that it would swing wide in 2036.

Don't worry about it. We'll have long since destroyed each other by the time 2036 comes around.

I still like to maintain the "theory" that Apophis will hit us on September 29, 2029. I think we have been mislead into believing that it will only do a close flyby past Earth then, and instead will get sucked in and crash into us indirectly. It will still be a potential Extinction Level Event though with the effects of the immediate impact, and all the secondary damage it will cause...
