Here are some various quotes from those that have had experience in the 9/11 investigation, and others that are major players.

High-Ranking Officials Admit 9/11 Could've Been Prevented

"This was not something that had to happen."

"They simply failed."

Thomas H. Kean, Chair of the independent commission investigating 9/11. Kean is a Republican appointed by Bush

"They don't have any excuse because the information was in their lap, and they didn't do anything to prevent it."

Senator Richard Shelby, then ranking Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee; member of the joint intelligence committee that investigated 9/11

"I don't believe any longer that it's a matter of connecting the dots. I think they had a veritable blueprint, and we want to know why they didn't act on it."

Senator Arlen Specter, a Republican member of the joint intelligence committee that investigated 9/11

"There were lots of warnings."

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld

"Should we have known? Yes, we should have. Could we have known? Yes, I believe we could have because of the hard targets [CIA operatives were tracking]."

Representative Porter Goss, Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence; Republican co-chairman of the joint intelligence committee that investigated 9/11

"I cannot say for sure that there wasn't a possibility we could have come across some lead that would have led us to the hijackers."

FBI Director Robert Mueller

"As of September 10th, each of us knew everything we needed to know to tell us there was a possibility of what happened on September 11th."

Assistant Attorney General Michael Chertoff (described by the Associated Press as "the Bush administration's top anti-terrorism prosecutor")

"Had one human being or a common group of human beings sat down with all that information, we could have gotten to the hijackers before they flew those four airplanes either into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon or the ground of Pennsylvania."

Senator Bob Graham, then Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence; Democratic co-chairman of the joint intelligence panel that investigated 9/11

"If you put all those pieces together, I don't say you could have prevented September 11th, but there might have been some warning, had it been handled properly."

Vice President Dick Cheney

Surprisingly, a large number of Republicans think that this administration's handling of intelligence was down- right negligent.

It couldn't have been prevented, since it was the government that carried out the attacks to use as an excuse for their wars in the middle east.

I thought the president or some other high ranking official in the FAA or NORAD scrambled fighter escorts as soon as they realized that the pilots were not responding to radio contact and were messing with the flight transponder.

We all know what really happened in the Pennsylvania farmland. There were heros involved this is true, but that's if you call the f-16 pilot who shot the plane down before it caused any real destruction a hero.

Delmart Edward Mike Vreeland, an American citizen whose claims to being a US Naval Lieutenant assigned to the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) are being increasingly corroborated in open court, has been in a Canadian jail since December 6, 2000. On August 11 or 12 of 2001, the date is uncertain, after trying to verbally alert his Canadian jailers to the coming World Trade Center attacks, he wrote down key information and sealed it in an envelope which he then had placed in jailers custody. This event is not disputed by Canadian authorities. The letter specifically listed a number of targets including The Sears Towers, The World Trade Center, The White House, The Pentagon, The World Bank, The Canadian parliament building in Ottawa and the Royal Bank in Toronto.

A chilling sentence follows the list of targets, Let one happen. Stop the rest!!!

A hashing of re-hash of rehashed hash...with a little more re-hash on the side.
Amazing how hind-sight isn't so 20/20 and yet the theories and speculation continues and will continue long into history.
Could 'many' things have been prevented?
Despite the so-called "evidences", grabbing a foretelling 8-ball or a crystal ball would have been a better way to 'predict' if 9/11 could have been prevented. In such, the responsibility of 'predicting' such and then preventing it are two different matters that are not solely regulated nor constrained to the present presidential administration....though, as with anything worth debating, some will counter and contend otherwise.

We can at least punish for incompetence or outright criminal activity after finding out too late to prevent. Though as to whether or not this will happen remains to be seen. I doubt it will myself.

In all honesty heelstone, and I know that you will find this amazing coming from me, but I would agree.
What I have found strange is that no one has been found negligent, per se', be it within this administration or the preceeding.

i'd say no....9-11 could not have been prevented

a Gestapo type public control would have had to exist,

you know the, 'vere r ur papers?" routines.

but a freedom land like America...the citizens (& noncitizens) would not accept that type of limitations and restrictions on their freedom to move about--->>>
but, in a POST 9-11 world....i donno... things have changed!

oh, Aliceinwonderland, day-old hash/re-hash is still OK...(however, my personal limit is ; either 3 days old or 3 times re-heated...) there's always someone interested or interesting... go for it

one plane crashing into one building i can see...but four planes, two crashing into two buildings and one into the pentagon? come on now.

if they did shoot down the 4th plane they should have been honest about it, i think given the circumstances people would have understood...it would have also at least shown they made an attempt to do something.

Reality = no one in the current united states government will ever be jailed for anything 9/11 related.

Sorry. If you consider the government capable of the dastardly deeds you say they did on 9/11 you would be very very very stupid to consider them weak enough to allow anything to happen to themselves.

Think of it this way folks, devious enough to pull off 9/11 and lay blame where they wish, but they leave holes for 1,000,000,000 armchair generals to bust them with? Naaaaaaah.
