Iran Prepared to Fill Iraq Power Vacuum

hosted.ap.org

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned Tuesday that a power vacuum is imminent in Iraq and said that Iran was ready to help fill the gap.

"The political power of the occupiers is collapsing rapidly," Ahmadinejad said at a press conference in Tehran, referring to U.S. troops in Iraq.

A small report, I will post more when I find it.

Could this be a signal? It seems strange that Ahmadinejad would pour fuel on the fire when Iraq is pretty much burning out of control already.

The UK is leaving Basra soon, this could be a "power vacuum" he is referring to, this timing makes me speculate as to the real message.

The Iranian President also said in his press conference:

US attack on Iran 'impossible'

TEHRAN: President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday dismissed the chance of a US attack against Iran as impossible, saying that Washington already had enough trouble in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"There is in no way the possibility of such an attack by the United States. Even if they take such a decision they cannot implement it," he told a news conference. "They have to solve the question of Iraq and Afghanistan."

The Iranian President is famous for these types of statements when he has a presser, so this could be just more of the same.
