By no means am I saying that Bush is perfect and that hes a great leader but hes a better choice then Chavez. Bush may not be a dictator but he sure is an idiot.

Im glad im not the only person here who sees Chavez for what he really is.

It means, that sometimes AID is just what it is - AID. No party politics - just help to the people who need it. Still people always seek (and usually "find") what kind of EVIL hidden agenda did Chavez have by sending help to Peru. For me Mister Chavez is far less evil then basicly all of the western politicians, who try really hard to be as innocent looking as possible. Let us not forget, that they are all still politicians - which means they are kind of liars all of them. But if I had to pick lesser evil out of many - I would pick Chavez.

Hi all,

Chavez is the man. What would you do in his position??
Let the USA control the whole S. American continent?
Offcourse not here we all talk about NWO corrupt USA gov. but everytime Chavez does something it´s wrong in a lot of people mind.
The S.America continent need someone like him otherwise you can just say that whole S.America is under USA influence.

castro and Chavez are the last of that kind.

But that´s my opinion.

nando out!

ITS WRONG BECAUSE HE IS A DICTATOR! You pride yourself on talking about freedom and liberty but yet you defend a dictator?

Hi

You state he is a dictator.
I never said that.

It´s one way or the other.

But be happy the CIA will keep trying to put his regime down.
Like they have done through out whole S.America.

Democratic socialism, Latin American integration, and anti-imperialism.
I am all ears for that.

Domestically, Chávez has launched Bolivarian Missions, whose goals are to combat disease, illiteracy, malnutrition, poverty, and other social ills. Abroad, Chávez has acted against the Washington Consensus by supporting alternative models of economic development, and has advocated cooperation among the world's poor nations, especially those in Latin America.

As i said it´s my opinion.

So I see you are yet another individual, who would rather die of hunger, then eat cans of tuna, send by Mister Chavez. Too much pride you have. How unfortunate for you.

Souljah,

Seems to me that Muaddib is the humble one.
You on the other hand seem to be encouraging the opportunistic showboating of Mr. Chavez (way to much pride me thinks). Why can't he just give for the sake of giving and not force a political message on the poor who just need food. Maybe he could have had messages of goodwill or survival hints instead. Don't you think that would have been more charitable?

From OP's article

The cans were distributed in Chincha, the province south of Lima which bore the brunt of the 8.0 magnitude quake, but it has not been established by whom. The story broke in the Lima daily Expresso, a newspaper hostile to Mr Chávez.

Who actually did this has not yet been established.

Mostly ANYHING Chavez does is going to be sooner or later smeared by the media, which have done that in the past several times. As it was in the case of free oil for the poor in U.S. and in this case also. If you do not want his aid - send it back. And the first who made a political move here, was president of Peru, Mr García, who has been under fire for delays in getting food, blankets and other aidto stricken areas not from the side of Mr Chavez. All it was in those cans of tuna was humanitarian aid, not party politics". But then again I perfectly understand your position, since your opinion about Mr Chavez has been shaped by the corporate mainstream media, which dance to the flute playing from Washington.

I'd like to thank the posters on this thread for the Football tickets that I just won. I bet a friend that a thread on an issue between Venezuela and Peru could be blamed on the US in ten posts or less. I'll be thinking of all of you at the Steelers game tomorrow night.

Did you even doubt that would happen?

This forum is filled with naive communists who think everything is fault of the CIA, Mossad, Bush, the US, etc and that Chavez, Mao, Che, Castro, etc are the great leaders of the people who are compassionate human rights leaders and democratically elected by the people who support them in the upper 90s ratings.

Nope. That's why I was suprised when he made the bet. I knew that the posters here wouldn't let me down. I even offered to give him the screen name of who would make the comment. (I would have been right on that)

Do you perhaps have something constructive to add to this debate, or are you just going to bore us with football and commie-paranoia?

Actually my comments are quite constructive and on subject. This thread was about an issue between Venezuela and Peru, in less than ten posts it became another US bashing thread. I'm curious, can anything happen in the world that isn't the fault of the US or does everything have to be twisted around untill it is?

Well I can not see this thread turning into a big all out U.S. bash thread. Somebody mentioned America, but that is it. I think we are pretty good with sticking to the subject here and I really do now know, how you won your bet and got free tickets for football.

And when you wonder, if there is any topic we can talk about, without mentioning United States. Well as it looks like, there is not. But have you questioned yourself why is that? Perhaps because for the last 50 years U.S. has been involved in almost every possible crisis there was in the world and it is the last remaining superpower. How can we forget that? Absoulte power corrupts absolutelly.

Why did he feel it neccessary to have that silliness printed on the label? Just give the tuna, and make sure everyone knows where it came from, although most would have been able to figure it out for themselves, I think.

Chavez is playing a dangerous game, sooner or later, it's going to backfire on him...

Do a good deed, and it was a good deed, but act like an ass in the process. He's one confusing dude.

But isn't it kind of imaginary? I mean, the U.S. doesn't seem to really care about Chavez or his country as far as I can tell, there are a lot bigger fish to worry about than him.

They care enough to temporarily overthrow him and attempt to bomb his plane.... Why wouldn't they care about a man who is part of the world wide movement to implement alternatives to capitalism and corporate rule?

I'm anything but a political expert but just from the news report and stuff I've seen, it looks like Chavez just kinda went off the deep end and started convincing himself the U.S. might invade him so he buys up all the military stuff he can gets his hands on, etc.

Your clearly no expert and maybe you should spend a few years studying the history of US military aggression in the region before saying anything more.

The U.S. might be observing him since he acts so crazy but I don't think the U.S. has any real interest in him other than just to watch him. He brings a lot of negative attention to himself.

He is not acting crazily and he is not the one invading countries while his own cities are flooded beyond repair.

That's how it seems to me anyway but I'm not saying I'm right, it's just an opinion from the things I see.

And that is the problem with ignorant opinions. Why don't you do the self respecting thing and inform yourself before commenting on these important issues?

Its useless. My friends here see communist aide as very humanitarian and Chavez is the best!

Where did they say that?

Please explain to them- i'm speechless. These countries live under terrible oppression yet people here think this leader is awesome
and that communism is kool.

Which countries? Cuba? The US government have sponsored into power far worse dictators than Castro ever wanted to be and to compare Chavez with the Shah or any of the dozens of other tyrants the US have sponsored is simply false.

If only they knew the suffering that comes with such oppresion.

As if you know... I think the people who ELECTED Chavez knows exactly what they had and how much better their current deal is.

Like i said on the other thread (for which i was called ignorant
) Chavez is taking delight to be in a position of "helping" and he is a devil in disguise.

The devil? Are you kidding me? Don't you know any history? Do you realise that even your lovable Bush have so far gotten give or take a million Iraqi's killed in his illegal war on that country?

Let me put it this way, I'd rather be here with BUSH and his tyranny than under Fidel's best friend's dictatorship. That should tell you how strongly i feel about this beast.

Well at least i now know just how ignorant and self serving you are.

And please, the rest of you, spare me the "you're ignorant" comments, ok?

Argggggh.

That would be far easier it you were not posting and making it so widely known.

Muaddib, tell them just how ignorant and wrong i am, please. I've had it!

Wont be getting any help from him.. According to him Castro is 'evil' and somehow worse than all those US sponsored one's... We just count bodies when socialism kills as capitalism never apparently does so with 'intent'; it's after all a force for 'good' in this world.

I still favour opportunism over a blatant disregard for international law so if anyone is going to point fingers and talk about dictators then lets talk about Bush; he stole the last two American elections and he has sent tens of thousands of Americans to get killed and injured in Iraq helping few if any Iraqi's in the process.

Why can't he just give for the sake of giving and not force a political message on the poor who just need food.

Did you see how they hand out food in Iraq? The smiling kids and heavily armed marines? Talk about propaganda at gunpoint...

Maybe he could have had messages of goodwill or survival hints instead. Don't you think that would have been more charitable?

Charity is giving and some do not have access to the BBC and CNN to spread the message they want so they have to print it on the tins.
