Pentagon closing database that had information on Iraq war protesters

www.cnn.com

The Pentagon's counterintelligence office is shutting down a database that contained information gathered within the United States, including intelligence about Iraq war protesters.

The Talon reporting system on threats to the Defense Department and domestic military installations will be closed September 17, the Pentagon announced Tuesday. Any data collected will be sent to the FBI until the Pentagon can establish a new program.

Are they really closing it, or are they just saying they are in order to keep building it up?

This seems pretty uncharacteristic of the Pentagon, especially in these times.

Puzzling.

Nice find DW, thanks. There are many upper echelon Pentagon personnel who are against the way Bush wants to run the military. It makes sense to me that they would want to shut down the illegal database program. However, who knows what this "new program" will be? That's what scares me.
