US Govs Anti-Terror Database to Shutdown

www.theinquirer.net

THE US GOVERNMENT'S anti-terror database with the user-friendly name of Talon will close down on September 17.

However Congress became a little concerned that it might be being used as an unauthorised citizen tracking database.

In 2005 Talon hit the headlines when it was discovered that it was being used for storing data on civilians. These included those who didn't like the War much and were prepared to take to the street to protest.

In a later report, the Pentagon said that now that the men in black could not file data on the activities of soap dodging anti-war demonstrators they were not filing anything and Talon would "no longer be of analytical value".

Pretty much, If you cut out the info on peace protestors and people against the war, then really no info would be put in to the database and it would no longer be useful.

I for one am glad for you guys in the US. That is, if another databse hasn't started up somewhere else that does the same thing?...??
