"UK had no answer to the Germans who at their leisure was going to blow UK back to the Stone Age. So what part of that war was the UK going to win?"

What on earth has this got to to do with this thread.
However, I have no desire to spoil your thread, so briefly in response.
The US did not win WW11 single handedly, neither did we.
Hitler wanted peace at all costs with UK, he was apathetic towards USA, he thought you irrelevant and only declared war on USA as he was obliged to as part of his treaty with Japan.
Hitler had his chance to invade UK after Dunkirk and before The Battle Of Britain. When he failed to do so it was innevitable that he would eventually lose.
Without US involvement the war against Hitler would have definately lasted longer but eventually we would have prevailed, Hitler had no stomach for a fight with us.
Stop believing everything you watch in Hollywood movies, you did not single handedly win WW11. End of.
The US bled Britain dry through Lend Lease etc, a debt we have just paid off!
I for one appreciate US contribution and respect and honour the memory of those that paid the ultimate sacrifice, don't do them a disservice by spreading lies.

I have respectfully refrained from contributing anymore to this thread as it was apparent that you Americans wanted to flex your pex and tell each other how great you are and how you won't let anyone comment on anything that concerns the US, it's affairs or events that concern it.
As if any foreigner could contribute to US society eh?

There appears to be a number of US posters here on ATS whose response to any non-US member having the nerve to display anything but blindly pro-american traits is to resort to "we won the war for you" and "wtf do you think you are, we are American" or the classic infantile "you did it first" responses.

I have a lot of respect for the US and it's citizens, I believe the world would be a worse place without your involvement in world affairs but seriously, grow up, be constructive and get rid of that chip on your shoulder.
The US is much better than that, do it justice.

Well, Haley, I suspect that eventually that will wind up occurring. The only real question in my mind is when and for how long.

And of course there is not a single problem with the US what with it being perfect and everything. I mean obviously the US would be able to do a better job at unifying many countries which have different languages, relgions, beliefs etc... Great post btw, and Americans wonder why so many people dislike them. You can live in your little world where there is not a problem with America. This isnt some male genital measuring contest, we have a better army, we dont need your help blah blah blah.

Violence begets more violence.

If your prison system is too lenient change it. Murder is not an answer to a lenient prison system. Harsher conditions would make life sentences more of a punishment.

I was reading an article regarding a black man on death row for murder and rape. The men who sentenced him were connected to the KKK or something. Anyway after years in prison a caste was taken of a bite mark on the victim's breast it did not match the teeth of the man on death row. But he was refused a retrial. A journalist smuggled a sperm sample out of prison and that did not match the DNA of the rapist. However, the courts did not allow the man's DNA to be used as evidence. It turns out the people who originally sentenced him have now gone on to secure even more important positions of power. The man on death row has to apply to an even higher court to get freed. Sorry if the details are kinda incomplete but I cant remember the article word for word.

Apparently alot of mentally ill people are on death row. People who are mentally ill do not deserve death because of the an illness they suffer. They deserve help allbeit spending the rest of their lives in prison.

The UK offers law students the chance to go to America and try and free the people on death row who are innocent. Apparently they have had success and through their efforts a number of people facing death are now free.

From what I have gathered the inmates on death row do not get the appropriate access to legal advice for whatever reasons.

Point I am trying to make is. Mistakes happen and people have and will continue to pay the ultimate price of such mistakes with their life. Until there is a way to know someone is 100% guilty the death penalty is wrong.

But if countries are not allowed to comment on other countries where does it end? In some countries stoning is an acceptable punishment for being rude to a judge. Should we comment then? How about when you speak out against a countries leader causing them and their family to be killed?

We would not have lost.
Hitler knew that and did not have the stomach and desire to fight us.
He knew better.

Would we have won though, possibly, possibly not.

I suspect a peace would have eventually been agreed guaranteeing British independance and co-existance.
What consequences that would have had for continental Europe I don't know but one things certain world history would have been very different.
