ah when I'm feeling blue some tunes to listen to are:

terrible lie - nin
"hey God
there's nothing left for me to hide.
i lost my ignorance, security and pride.
i'm all alone in a world you must despise.
hey God
i believed your promises, your promises and lies."

another nin song > Down in it

'I'll cross my heart and hope to die but the needle's already in my eye
And all the world's weight is on my back and I don't even know why
And what I used to think was me is just a fading memory
I looked him right in the eye and said "goodbye"'

really i could list a million more songs but 2 of my favs

"Don't Want To See You Go"

chorus:
Don't Want to See you Go
But Something's changed, I know

Your shrink is on the phone
He says you're going away to your new home tonight
_____________

The doctor says you're not crazy
He says it's all about me
He's a hypocrite and he's lazy
He thinks it's better if you set me free

well think again cause i'm your only friend
and where you gonna go to get high

I think it's best if we just let things be
and ride down to the tavern tonight

(chorus)

Your mama says that I'm angry
Only when she is around
She's just tryin' to estrange me
She don't understand why I'm down

let's get it back, let's get it on
and I won't even get drunk

believe it or not I'm on your side
I'm just in a hell of a funk

(chorus)

Okay, this is I believed ranked as one of the worst songs in history, but I remember when I was a teenager and it came out it would make me cry every time...lol. Must be a girl thing.

I've Never Been to Me - Charlene

This one I will always have as one of my top songs...it's sad not just because of the words, but because of Pat's beautiful clear voice...

Don't Let it Show - Pat Benatar

Sarah McClachlan's Angel makes me cry - but just because it's beautiful, it doesn't make me sad.

And, of course, we can't leave out the real heart-breaker:

My Clone Sleeps Alone = Pat Benatar...LMAO.

i agree, that song used to make me cry (some bad incedents relatin to the lyrics of that song)

actually, if anything would make me cry nowadays, it is probably that song. that or the movie Garden State.

and Lost Cause by Beck.

I gotta throw in my two cents here, although I'm of the little group here that has too many to really list.

Classical/Instrumentals
Piano Concerto No. 3 in d minor--Rachmaninoff. From the movie Shine, also I'll admit I came home and cried to it the day my first serious girlfriend and I broke up.

Prelude in c# minor--Rach. also. Doesn't get much more dramatic than this on a solo piano.

Prelude in c minor--Chopin. Short, sweet, to the point. About half a notch below his Funeral March in my book (which is too obvious, so I'm not going to list it.)

Modern/"Regular" Music
Most of the ones I'd pick have already been mentioned:
Angel--Sarah McLachlan. My fiance sang this at her dad's funeral. I think that's enough reason.
Danny Boy, any version.
Every Rose Has it's Thorn--Poison
Knockin on Heaven's Door--Bob Dylan (GNR just doesn't have the same feel.)
Nothing Else Matters--Metallica. I don't have any stats, but I've heard this one's been playing when most people commit suicide.
Hurt--NIN
Loser--Three Doors Down
Outside--Staind
Behind Blue Eyes--Limp Bizkit. I know it's a cover, but I personally like this version better than the original.
In The End--Linkin Park
Scavenger Type--NOFX
Name--Goo Goo Dolls
Iris--Goo Goo Dolls
What Might've Been--Little Texas
The Good Stuff--Kenny Chesney
Not Even The Trees--Hootie & the Blowfish
Goodbye--Hootie & the Blowfish
Motherless Child--Hootie & the Blowfish (originally a hymn?)

I think I'll stop now

OMD- Enola Gay
Beck- All In Your Mind(I really like Sea Change!)
Maria McKee- Show me Heaven

And many, many others!

Terry Jacks ~ Seasons in the sun

I would have to agree with this.

A loooong time ago (probably about 16 years old at the time) my friends and I decided what songs we wanted played at our funerals. This was Kevin's song.

Three years later I got to listen to it, at his funeral. Talk about having a total meltdown.....

wow, virtually no references to Radiohead. the only one so far was a cover of Wish You Were Here (which was NOT covered by Radiohead but rather Sparklehorse with Thom Yorke playing backup). anyways, the saddest, most depressing song ever written is Radiohead - Exit Music (For a Film). it was written about what romeo and juliet should have done, which is run far away as soon as they got married. of course, they hung around and let the stars cross their love. this song is Radiohead at their best. i recommend it since there are apparently not many people on this thread who are familiar with Radiohead. oh yeah, that song is on the album OK Computer.
