When I first arrived in America from Australia in 2003, I flew via Tokyo.
I landed at Dallas airport and the teminal was super heated.
While having my immigration interview I asked why it was so hot in there and they said it was because of the SARS epidemic.
They were observing how arriving passengers behaved, and had CDC people watching and taking aside anyone who showed symptoms of being sick.
