Actually, those were peak prices. And if Bush hadn't declared a war, the prices may well have been just the same.

I invest in stocks, and occasionally buy Raytheon. Raytheon (today) is at 28
Raytheon Stock price with chart

(actually, take a look at the FIVE year trend.)

Raytheon's also a "conglomerate" and not a defense industry stock: biz.yahoo.com...

Alliant started going up in January of 2001 finance.yahoo.com...

Northrop Grummond's stock hit a new low for the year recently: finance.yahoo.com...

Compare its relative performance to the NASDAQ and you'll see that it underperformed for the past five years and only started outperforming the Nasdaq earlier this year: finance.yahoo.com... l&y=on

And United Technologies is all over the map:

A lot of those aren't even in the same sectors (meaning they sell different stuff. It's like comparing Walmart with Babies R Us.)

A final link: the aerospace and defense companies (not the conglomerates): biz.yahoo.com...

That's just someone "taking a button and sewing a coat on it." Take a look at stocks like Axsys, BE Aerospace, Allied Defense, Boeing, General Dynamics and the rest in the other sectors (that's just bad research... they're in a number of different sectors.)

(BTW, construction actually had a MUCH higher 'return on equity (ROE) than the defense industry did. And surely you're not going to try and pin things on Home Depot! The Capital Goods Sector (compare Aerospace & Defense to others in its sector)

By the way... Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) went up after September 11th 2001 (finance.yahoo.com...

So did the Anderson Group finance.yahoo.com...

Burlington Northern Railroad
finance.yahoo.com...

And Beamis Company (packaging industry)
finance.yahoo.com...

...and RubberMaid:

And KSwiss (makes shoes)
finance.yahoo.com...

And Nike Shoes
finance.yahoo.com...

...and a whole buncha others that I'm not going to list.

So... it's a dramatic list, but it's pretty much a load of nonsense... unless you think Nike is part of the plot, too.
