In 1977, the Baader Meinhoff terrorists sponsored 2 events in an effort to get their imprisoned leaders released including name sake Andreas Baader, and Jan-Carl and Gudrun Ensslin. They kidnapped Hanns Schleyer, a German businessman and hijacked Lufthansa Flight 181. GSG 9 failed to rescue Schleyer, but Flight 181 was rescued in Somalia. The interesting thing is that shortly thereafter all 3 imprisoned leaders were either shot or found hung to death in their cells. If the Germans Bundes government got away with this in 1977, why can't the USA do similar things? For example, everytime Al Quaida kidnaps and cuts off an American's head, why can't some Al Quaida dudes get shot and hung at Guantanimo Bay?

Because we Americans have turned into wimps and sissies. After all, this is the same country that rewards and makes excuses for criminals and gives the more rights to criminals then their victims.

I think the Germans have it right. I saw a Google video on German soldiers in Kosovo. A suspicious car approached a road block and would not stop, so they kept on firing for about 7 minutes after the car stopped. If you intend to kill, do so. If some one kills a member of your tribe, kill them before they do it again. The current theme at Guantanimo Bay is whether certain captive individuals are British citizens or merely legal residents of Britain. Was that the question when we seized them by rendition? No, the issue was whether they were Al Quaida period; not wether they were Al Quaida British citizens or merely legal residents of Britain.

They didn´t "fail" to rescue him. Noone ever had an idea whee he was until his death.

While some details of the assumed suicides of said 3 leaders are fishy, there has never been A SINGLE compelling piece of evidence pointing towards an execution by the government.

So unless you have new evidence, those were suicides. So what exactly did the german government got away with?

That's a pretty high evidentiary standard, it has to be compelling. I suppose compelling evidence would have required that the German jailers be brought to trial for murder. Even without actual investigation, the publicly available information shows compelling circumstantial evidence. These guys were sitting in jail hoping that they would be released in the hijack deal. They found that their comrades had failed. All 3 are suddenly SO DESPONDENT that they all commit suicide. These were hardened terrorists not emotionally labile wall flowers. All 3 found the means to hang or shoot themselves on the same night. Even if the Bundes government cannot be implicated in executions, did they not have a responsibility to prevent suicide (no 3 simultaneous suicides all on the night they received news that their comrades had failed in Mogadishu).

here i believe you have gone a long way to answeing your own question

the Gearman govt had nailed its colours to the mast - with " no deals with terrorists " statements - and backed it up with miltary action

the BM prisoners were NOT going to be released

and they just found out that a further section of thier gang had died - not just failed

All 3 are suddenly SO DESPONDENT that they all commit suicide. These were hardened terrorists not emotionally labile wall flowers.

yoou seem to be attempting to hang some sort of romantisised heroism on these terrorists - how do you know they were not psychologically fragile ?

do you actuallly think that the actions of the BM gang were sane ?

thier bid for freedom had failed

thier collegues were dead / captured

the govt had taken the hard line

terrorists IMHO and personal experience - are mostly cowards

the BM gang took the cowards way out

you seem to have cast your net awefully wide - how / why should the federal govt be involved ?

if it was true - a descision to take no action in the event of a suicide attempt could - and i stress COULD have been hatched by as few as 2 to 5 guards - none above the rank of corpral

right or wriong - such conspiracies do occur with frigtening regularity - and generally only involve one or two people with direct contact with the prisoner

sadly i know this - because a close freind of mine was just such an invididual - acting alone , he preformed his rounds - and discovering a despised sex offender attempting suicide by hanging - he tranmitted the " alls well " message - and walked away to file a falsified log entry - a prisoner in the next cell however made a commotion and the alarm was raised

my mate lost his job - and was lucky toto to go to jail himself

my point is - it needs only one man to do nothing - to facilitate a prisoner suicide
