A reported case of Legionnaires' disease linked to the Pirbright laboratory site in Surrey is being investigated by officials.

The Health Protection Agency confirmed that the probe related to the Institute of Animal Health, which is on the site.

I think this laboratory is very dangerous.... first it causes disease to cattle and now to humans... and the laboratory is still up and running. In my eyes this is very very dumb. If I was in charge I would shut it down a.s.a.p.

Merial (us company) reportedly manufactured 10,000 litres of the strain of foot and mouth which was released to the open - so therefore its a different laboratory than this one;

although that bbc article you linked to changes its `who is to blame` part way through!


also in the article you linked it was reported that they knew he had legionaires as it pre dates the recent foot and mouth outbreak.

they also claim it may have come from the Merial facility as well.
