Missouri congressman and White House contender, Richard Gephardt said that the U.S. should be doing more to fight the causes of terrorism throughout the world such as poverty and ignorance. "You've got to deal with the symptoms," said Gephardt, who took some time from the campaign trail to meet with policy analysts and business leaders.

In his speech, Gephardt described the Bush foreign policy team as "cold warriors brought out of retirement" who had isolated the United States. He said the election in November would decide how or whether the United States would advance American democratic values around the world. www.reuters.com [Edited on 13-1-2004 by SkepticOverlord]

Fine - then impeach Bush & Cheney, lock away Wolfowitz, Perle, Powell and Rice and close down the CIA.

Easy when you know how

Sure, lots of people have said this at one point or another. However, I never heard Kucinich say exactly HOW his plan would work. Gephardt's main plank on this topic is the "International Minimum Wage," which he would press for through the WTO to raise the standard of living across the world.

Sounds ambitious, but wonderful if he can pull it off.
