BUSINESS: Kodak to stop selling traditional cameras

Topic started on 13-1-2004 @ 07:13 PM by ktprktpr

Digital cameras are making a lot more money than normal cameras. Imagine that. Their stock price rose upon this annoucement. Never fear, though, apparently Kodak will still go for disposable cameras. So Ansel Adams could still use a Pop and Flash camera.

Specifically, the Advanced Photo System (APS) format and reloadable cameras that use 35-millimeter film are kaput. Like video game console makers, Camera companies lose money on hardware and make profit on the extras, like film (or games, in the case of console makers).

edit- forgot to put "money" in my sentence. Apparently Kodak won't make this mistake...

The same 'whoops' issues regarding technology getting so good it hurts it's own developers is rampant, from 3 cents a minute long distance to the ever decreasing cost of a computer...

Still waiting for the genius that invents a replicator and ruins everything.
