MSNBC is saying Home land security says there is no I repeat no terrorist involvement. It is just a tragic accident. They stated witnesses say the
crews were using jack hammers on the bridge surface and only 8 cars went into the river. One school bus loaded with kids had injuries but all got off
alive and no numbers on injuries or possible deaths at this time.

I did not read any other posts, not even the OP's. My opinion is that this is rediculous. Terrorism, or so they say. I see 4 more bridges before
the end of the night.

A structual engineer is being interviewed on the local ABC network and they are reading a report from May 2006 in that MNDOT (the Minnesota Dept of
Transportation) examined the bridge and found hair-line cracks on the steel portion of several beams that were directly under the concrete portion of
the bridge.
Also, another witness interviewed heard the "rumbles" just seconds before the collapse - from her office about 4 blocks away! As for terrorists,
not sure, and highly unlikely, just reporting what was heard from people up here. My feeling is it because of the bridge inspection going on today,
and the construction on both sides of the bridge, it is a construction accident.

I may be saying this too soon, but don't worry overly, let your security services do that. It may be structural, they happen once every blue moon,
just keep on with it, and it may not be too bad. I've just touched wood.

From what iv'e seen on sky news the "live footage" is 50 mins old in the UK and doesn't look like a couple of people died they have been saying
100s of people dead and injured. mymain worry is what caused the bridge to give way etc.

Watching CNN here in the UK, Paula Zahn Show, don't know how reputable she is, reporting that only one lane may have been open due to construction
work.
These things tend to have a life of their own and casualties etc tend to vary by the minute, station etc.

"My truck got completely torn in half," said Gary Bavanaugh, who was on the bridge when it collapsed. "The bridge started shaking and it went
down fast."
Bavanaugh said he was headed northbound on I-35W when he heard a huge rumbling and he saw a huge cloud of white dust as the bridge collapsed. He had
his seatbelt on and said if he hadn't, his head would have gone through the windshield.
...
According to a spokesperson from the Mn-DOT, there was no work on the actual structure under the bridge.

That is correct. as the I-35W Bridge was closed this past weekend for repairs, but not during the week. Also, yes there is only 8 cars in the water
- because the entire 1/4 mile length of the bridge is in the water.

Dont panic peeps. this isnt any terrorist bombing...as it appears. looks like structral failure...which happened in texas(?), a few months back. but
this is much bigger.
there are way more car in the water then 8...they are reporting 30 cars minumin in the water alone...(just watch the live coverage at www.msn.com)
this was "bumper to bumper" traffic
was a train under the bridge!
50+ cars total involved...

Tragic...makes you wonder how something like this can happen? I work in construction and there are many many rules and regulations for safety to
follow, even moreso on existing structures.
My thoughts and prayers to those who had to endure this experience. Bless their hearts.

For the life of me I can't understand how they claim to know such things so quickly. Perhaps because the government is the only true terrorist.

There has to be a lot in the water. They said it was bumper to bumper traffic, and I don't see too many cars on top of the collapse.
What a tragedy. I had recurring dreams about bridges collapsing when I was kid.

This bridge has had problems from the beginning.
Check it out, you might be enlightened.

WOW Thanks for the heads up got it on foxnews now. When did this happen? I am so very sorry for all of you here on ATS that are local there. I'M
crying now... I can only pray that they find all of the people that were present. Just said that DHD said it is not terrror related that they were
working oon the bridge. I cant wait till the real people not the officials start telling us what this is all about. Now they are talking about railway
being involved.

A tragic accident by the looks of it.
I actually joked with my work colleagues that there would be cries of "Terrorism", but had to stop myself choking when some people actually did
exactly that!
Hopefully no one is seriously hurt. I cringed when I read that a school bus had gone into the water.
