What I think could have happened is that either accidentally or intentionally this disease was brought to the Southern states.

Either this disease has been passed from human to human, as in those Gulf war veterans who contracted the disease and came back to the U.S. brought the disease here, or it could be possible that a small colony of sandflies found their way into an aircraft coming to the states from Iraq, and made a home here. Or, someone, possibly terrorists intentionally brought the disease to the U.S.

Recently a girlfriend of mine who's in nursing school brought up the subject of flesh eating bacteria. She explained how this bacterium is and always has been present everywhere in abundance. On our kitchen tables, in our bathtubs etc. But people in good health have the means to neutralize its effect. Only in rare cases does it actually harm anyone. Just another example of propaganda designed to exploit the masses through fear it seems!
