The Bush administration, under mounting domestic pressure to produce an exit strategy from Iraq, has been nervous that a full British withdrawal would add to the criticism. But Mr Brown made clear - and President Bush accepted - that Britain would go its own way, even if that gave the impression the two countries were diverging.

I don't think Bush needs any military help now that he has his mercenary 'surge' in place.

Blackwater and Halliburton have thousands on the ground, not to mention our own troops.

Even if we do leave Iraq, I believe there was to be a proposed vanguard of five thousand troops to preserve 'security.' Whatever that means. Protect the interests of foreign investors?
