At@t selling all cell phone numbers to telemarketers

i have been hearing alot about this and i didn't believe it but today i started getting text messages from telemarketers.How the hell is this not illegal????and has it happened to anyone else???

first ,

do you have any evidence that at&t are actually selling numbers ?

telephone numbers are sequential 6 digit numbers

they are assigned in blocks - and basically if you know one valid number that has just been activated - it is not rocket science to decuce that the proceeding blocks have been assigned

tele-marketers can generate " call lists " without the knoledge or complicity of the teleco


second - have you read the T&C of your service contract ?

in most cases you are only leasing the right to use the number - it remains the property of the carrier

this allows them to retain the right to use the info for thier own purposes

read the small print

the bigger issue was AT&T giving the US govt all of our phone records. A complete violation of our privacy and the law

I make it a point to stop by the AT&T store kiosk in the mall and let any potential customer know what AT&T did. Sadly though most dont seem to even care
