Gonzales May Face Perjury Probe

www.usnews.com

The Washington Times is reporting today that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy and the panel's ranking Republican, Sen. Arlen Specter, warned yesterday that Attorney General Gonzales "must quickly clarify apparent contradictions in his testimony about surveillance laws or risk a possible perjury investigation or a special prosecutor." Sen. Leahy, on CBS's Face the Nation, warned Gonzales "has a week to correct [his testimony] if he wants. I'd suggest he consult with a lawyer as he does it."

More heat on Gonzales and the White House. Will Gonzales come clean with Congress? Will Bush and the rest of his staff cooperate with investigators? I wouldn't hold my breath; the Bush White House is all about playing hard ball and unless Congress comes up with a new strategy, like holding the President in contempt and starting impeachment proceedings,
threats of perjury are small potatoes.

Of course that's just my opinion. What's yours?

I hope they stick it to Gonzales real bad. If I have to hear him say:

"I'm not sure"
"I recuse myself for such and such reason"
"I don't know"
"I wasn't aware"
"It's classified"
or
"I can't comment on this for this lame reason...."

for much longer, my brain's gonna explode. I'm just happy that FINALLY a fairly large amount of people in DC are standing up to Bush and his buddies and telling them they can't do whatever they want anymore. Or at least attempting to tell them no. I'm just confused as to how Gonzales still has his job. But there are a lot of things in this administration that confuse me....

Oh and of course Bush and his staff won't cooperate, I mean why start now?
