Attorney General Alberto Gonzales keeps digging a deeper and deeper hole for himself and the Bush administration every time he testifies before
Congress. Today was no exception as Gonzales dissembled and changed his testimony from his last appearance, to the confusion and consternation of both
co-chairman, Patrick Leahy and committe member Chuck Schumer.
Previously, Gonzales has testified that the Patriot Act and more specifically, the Terrorist Surveillance Program were the chief reason for his visit,
accompanied by former chief of staff Andy Card, to visit then Attorney General John Ashroft in the Hospital.
Today, Gonzales recanted that testimony and said that they,( himself and Ashcroft) had a "disagreement" over "other" Intelligence activites and
that was the reason for their visit.
The Comittee was not buying Gonzales' story and ordered a full review of Gonzales' past testimony before the Committee. Gonzales was unable to
satisfy their requests for clarification on his change in story.
