Explosions under 13 Mile road in Madison Heights are blowing manhole covers into the air.
It's happening just west of I-75.
Police have blocked off 13 Mile from Stephenson Highway to John R.
The traffic signals at 14 Mile and Stephenson Highway have been knocked out. Other signals in the area have also been affected
It's not clear if anyone has been hurt, or what caused the explosions.
MADISON HEIGHTS -- Police this afternoon have closed the intersection of 13 Mile Road and Stephenson Highway because of a blown manhole cover.
An electrical problem is the likely culprit for the popped cover, Madison Heights Police said.
The problem has caused traffic lights at the intersection and 14 Mile Road and Stephenson to malfunction, police said.
Officers about 1:15 p.m. were waiting for DTE Energy crew to arrive and make repairs, police said.
