Just to keep it relatively simple, I'm just going to go with the skill positions on both sides of the ball, two at each position.

Here's mine:

QB- Joe Montana
QB- Brett Favre
RB- Eric Dickerson
RB- Jim Brown
WR- Randy Moss
WR- Jerry Rice
TE- Jay Novacek (my sleeper pick
)
TE- Ozzie Newsome
DE- Reggie White
DE- Julius Peppers
LB- Ray Lewis
LB- Lawrence Taylor
CB- Deion Sanders
CB- Aeneus Williams
PK-Adam Vinatieri
PK-Gary Andersen

C'mon all you old-timers. Bring on your Deacon Jones' and your Johhny U's and your "Crazy Legs" Hirsch's!
Beat my team.........I dare ya!

Peace

How bout some safties and OL? I would throw Ronnie Lott and Rod Wodson as my two safties. For OL you have to start with Anthony Munoz, one of the best players of all time. I think the best guard of all time is John Hannah. Still undecided about center.

For your list, I don't think I would have Favre. So many other great QBs to choose from, such as: Otto Graham, Young, Marino, Unitas, Elway, and I would even through Peyton or Brady ahead of him.

I think I would also take OJ or Payton over Dickerson. Barry Sanders could have been there if he didn't retire early.

Instead of Novacek I would have taken Kellen Winslow Sr. Night Train Lane over Aaneus Williams. Julius Peppers still has a lot more to accomplish before he can be called one of the greatest. He is no Mean Joe Greene yet.

Why not?

QB- Johnny U (you knew it was coming)
QB- Montana (and I was tempted to put Bobby Layne here just for spite)
RB- Bronko Nagurski
RB- Walter Payton
WR- Jerry Rice
WR- Raymond Berry
TE- Ditka
TE- Kellen Winslow
DE- Gino Marchetti
DE- Reggie White
LB- Butkus
LB- Ted Hendricks
CB- Night Train Lane
CB- Rod Woodson
S- Ronnie Lott
S- Doug Plank (my sleeper pick)
PK- Jan Stenerud
P- Rohn Stark (my sleeper pick #2)
Returns- Gale Sayers

Yes, a lot of Colts & Bears. But that's how I roll.

I'm not sure if safety's really considered a skill position, but what the hell. Give me Lott and Steve Atwater. Punter....Ray Guy. Kick and punt returner without a doubt is Primetime. Coach, give me Bill Walsh.

Damnit people stop changing the rules!

Edit: On the O-line I'll take Bruce Matthews, Tony Boselli, Anthony Munoz, Hannah and Mike Webster.......gotta throw a center in there.

Peace

I'm not sure there's a position that isn't a skill position. I could argue OT is more of a skill position than DT. But who cares about O-Line?

Coach though, gotta be Lombardi. Come on, they named the frikkin' TROPHY after him.

Okay, O Line I'll take Hannah, Munoz, Forrest Gregg & Jim Parker. And my center is Chuck Bednarik. And not just because he beat the stool out of Frank Gifford.

Ditka? Overrated...

Now on with the show...

Quarterback (starter): Joe Montana, really who else?
Quarterback (reserve): Dan Marino, numbers alone qualify him.

Runningback (starter): Marcus Allan, a Raider, but I loved him anyway.
Runningback (starter): Walter Payton, Sweetness indeed.
Runningback (reserve): Barry Sanders, a/k/a Anklebreaker.

Wide Receiver (starter): Jerry Rice, duh.
Wide Receiver (starter): Steve Largent, best of his time, period.
Wide Receiver (reserve): James Lofton, always underrated, not here.
Wide Reciever (reserve): Art Monk, total professional, totally great.

Tight End (starter): Kellen Winslow, Sr., Jr. only wishes he was this good.
Tight End (reserve): Ozzie Newsome, the only one even close to Sr.

Defensive End: Bruce Smith, sack artist, underrated against the run.
Defensive End: Reggie White, best ever, period.
Defensive Tackle: Howie Long, a Raider I know, still great.
Defensive Tackle: John Randle, sack artist up the middle.

Linebacker: Dick Butkus, best ever at his position.
Linebacker: Lawrence Taylor, ditto.
Linebacker: Junior Seau, de je vu.

Cornerback: Dieon Sanders, really really good, ask him, he'll tell you.
Cornerback: Rod Woodson, better at corner than he ever was at safety.

Safety: Ronnie Lott, see Butkus.
Safety: Steve Atwater, underrated and really really good.

Punter: Ray Guy, why, oh why isn't this man in the HOF? Criminal.
Kicker: Dime a dozen, who cares?

Coach: Chuck Noll.

Before I name my team I have to ask, can I move players around? Make an ILB an OLB? A FS a CB? A TE a WR? You get the idea.

Thoughts?

Naturally I have an issue with any all-time NFL team that doesn't have Butkus on it, but otherwise I won't quibble.

What was the issue about out of position players? I was expecting you to slot Stan Mikita in at middle LB or something.

No, not really. He was WAY ahead of his time. A great QB. His only problem was that he was black. You add his stats from the CFL, 5 straight Grey Cups, with what he did in the NFL and his numbers are better than Marino's. That gets overlooked a lot.

he's right. By the time he got to the NFL he was 28 or so. Speaking of him, just got in some legal trouble in portland...

I can agree with Intrepid here, being Oiler blue through and through.
His only other problem was his penchant for coughing up the ball. He may be the leader at quarteback in that category, or second to Dave Kreig.
