Our fifth technology upgrade is now officially "in the works."
We've selected a new infrastructure and networking vendor, and the equipment is provisioned and being worked on now.
For those who get into such things, here's the details...
Primary Database Server
Dual Xeon Clovertown 5345 Quad-Core CPU's (8 total CPU cores)
64-bit CentOS and 64-Bit MySQL
4Gigs high-speed RAM
RAID-10 with 4x 15K RPM hard drives
3 Load Balanced Web Servers
Xeon Woodcrest 5148 Dual-Core CPU's
2 GIGs RAM
1x 15k RPM hard drive
CacheFly high speed distributed media network.
Hosting all images, podcasts, and video
In short... one hellofa system.
This is our most significant upgrade since we moved from shared-hosting to a Pentium-class dedicated server four years ago. The new infrastructure
will not only provide a much higher level of performance, but it also introduces a whole new area of fault-tolerance and scalability.
Our hopeful cut-over target for ATS, BTS, and AP is Saturday, July 28th. There shouldn't be any actual down time, just a "read-only" mode with no
new posts as we transition the data. After that, we're rockin'
As we get closer to the cut-over date, or if there are changes, I'll update this thread.
