Our fifth technology upgrade is now officially "in the works."

We've selected a new infrastructure and networking vendor, and the equipment is provisioned and being worked on now.

For those who get into such things, here's the details...

Primary Database Server
Dual Xeon Clovertown 5345 Quad-Core CPU's (8 total CPU cores)
64-bit CentOS and 64-Bit MySQL
4Gigs high-speed RAM
RAID-10 with 4x 15K RPM hard drives

3 Load Balanced Web Servers
Xeon Woodcrest 5148 Dual-Core CPU's
1x 15k RPM hard drive

Media Network
CacheFly high speed distributed media network.
Hosting all images, podcasts, and video

In short... one hellofa system.

This is our most significant upgrade since we moved from shared-hosting to a Pentium-class dedicated server four years ago. The new infrastructure will not only provide a much higher level of performance, but it also introduces a whole new area of fault-tolerance and scalability.

Our hopeful cut-over target for ATS, BTS, and AP is Saturday, July 28th. There shouldn't be any actual down time, just a "read-only" mode with no new posts as we transition the data. After that, we're rockin'

As we get closer to the cut-over date, or if there are changes, I'll update this thread.

Very Nice.

Just one more reason why ATS is the leader of Conspiracy Sites on the net.

Thanks for all the hard work and dedication.

link that I've stopped drooling ...

* schweet *

It would seem that the "load balancing issue" has been on the list for quite some time. Glad to see it finally being addressed in such an aggressive fashion.

While the database server is the proverbial "heart", requests have to come from somewhere ... balanced being the best approach, now and into the future.

Thanks, ATS.

Ahh, Skeptic - you just reminded me of the old days when I was network administrator for an ISP Head-End.

I wanna go play in the rack-room!

I have no idea what that is but it sounds good.

Great news SO.

Do you want any donations to the ATS fund

I'm no techie, so what exactly will this mean for the site? What will the benefits be for the average user? Good to see ATS expanding and moving forward.

Yep, I have no idea what any of that means, but it sounds cool.

Always cool to hear ATS expanding, and if I understand the first part this would seem to
be a major hardware upgrade.

ATS doesn't take donations but, should you feel the need to send some money somewhere, allow me to list a few of my favorite charities.

Juvenile Diabetes
Crakeur Party Fund
Any of the wildlife conservation funds

Don't send any money to the "Crakeur Party Fund" as they never have any decent beer at the parties.

As always... the best donation any member can make is your best-thought quality posts and threads. That simple idea has served us very well, and we will continue to do our best to promote the content contributions of our members.

Top Banana.

Loads of accronyms and stuff with numbers on the end!

That means it's hardcore gadgetry.
