The world is online.....

Topic started on 18-7-2007 @ 03:50 PM by nomadrush

Several years I ago I was somewhat alone is shouting that "Internet Radio" would become a huge and well-listened too media format and at the time I was ridiculed by other media pundits from forums such as Media UK and the like.

Now, with some online digital stations having larger audiences than most DAB stations and more than even some FM stations, it seems I was proven to be correct, and the growth will continue.

Whilst FM figures are falling drastically and DAB continues to be at best unreliable and at worst "dreadful" - the online audience grows daily and more and more people are realising there is a terrific choice of niche stations online that they can listen too whilst they surf.

People are spending more hours online each week and more and more advertisers are moving their campaigns and funds away from conventional TV and Radio onto the World-Wide-Web.

Now I hear the industry insiders telling us that cars are now being designed with online radio access, and most towns will have open ADSL access within 3 years in a roll-out similar to that witnessed with mobile telephones, meaning that it will be as simple to get Internet Radio as it currently is to receive FM.

There is little doubt that the Internet provides the future of both TV and radio and I am so please to be at the forefront of this revolution.

True. The lyrics of the Queen song "Radio Ga-Ga" are definitely valid. I'm a big radio fan. But I listen to what you call "Niche" stations on the paranormal and govt cover-ups like Coast to Coast and Radio Nexus. (I've even been interviewed myself on one of them! See the Education and Media board) What will seem strange to radio listeners of 50 years ago is that I'm a radio fan who doesn't own a radio! I am a 100% online listener.

Hi Hagbard

That's not unusual in this day and age. Many people now listen purely online as even the bigger stations now have an online presence, and it's far more convenient to listen whilst surfing so that you can check out the news and information "as you hear it" - thus making the experience totally interactive"!

There is now a radio available that plays most Internet stations and as long as you are in a wireless network area you have no need of a computer! I even listen to mine in the bath lol! (See www.theimpradio.com...)

My dad is a big fan of "The Archers" and he's been listening to it since he was a kid in the 50's. He never even had a TV until he'd grown up and the radio was all he knew. Today he still loves the radio. He's a bit of a traditionalist and took a long time to see the benefits of the internet, but now he often listens to "The Archers" podcast archive when he misses the boardcast.
