"We're waiting for a real message" that Syria is prepared to make a "strategic realignment" in exchange for direct talks on returning the Golan Heights, captured 40 years ago, the official told Reuters.

If Israel gives the Golan Heights to Syria, IMO, That will be the beginning of the end for Israel.
The strategic positioning of the Golan Heights Gives Syria and it's allys the ability to launch an bigger offensive against Isreal.
What's the old saying in war? Whoever has the high ground has an advantage?

Hmm, I wonder if Israel would agree to cease its Alliance with the United States as a pre-cursor to negotiations with the Syrians over the Golan Heights. Not bloody likely.

The Syrians have no need, or desire, to sever ties with a regional power as grounds for negotiations which may or may not result in Israel withdrawing from Syrian territory.

The Israeli doctrine of demanding unequivocal and unrealistic pre-conditions for negotiations is completely disingenuous and transparent. Case in point, they demand Hezbollah basically capitulate and recognize Israel and lay down its arms simply as a pre-condition for entering talks. What entity in their right mind would grant so much simply to sit down at the negotiating table and hope for the Israelis to throw them some scraps?

The Israelis know that Syria wont cut its Mutual Defence Pact with the Iranians but at least it can pontificate about being unable to find a "partner for peace" and bemoan the spurned overtures of a peace-loving nation such as Israel in the face of dogged Arab irreconcilability.

Bah humbug!
