LONDON, July 16 — Britain’s relations with Russia deteriorated further today as the British government announced that it would expel four Russian diplomats in retaliation for Russia’s refusal to extradite the key suspect in the deadly poisoning of a former K.G.B. agent, Alexander V. Litvinenko, in London last year.

Now the Reuters source makes this sound super-serious:

Russia said the decision was "immoral", would prompt retaliation, and could only "entail the most serious consequences for Russian-British relations," according to a foreign ministry spokesman.

Err.. that doesn't sound good..

I know the expulsion was a justified, no-nonsense response,
but considering the current state of "world affairs", instead
of contributing to weakening relations, could there have been
other actions not as drastic?

Well ATS'ers, how serious is this exactly?

All Russia will do is expel British diplomats in return,

probably ban British media from entering Russia.

Maybe say "no no" to British firms purchasing oil and gas from the motherland.
