I'm puzzled and I suppose since I'm new to this kind of stuff - I'm not in the know, but what is it about the belt buckle that screams Skull and Bones? To me it looks like the face on the moon or sun...

I guess in that image it is a bit small. Anyone have a higher res image of the buckle, and maybe the ring? I saw it on the newstand, and it is without a doubt a skull and crossbones. One could chalt that up to Awnold's Hollywood connections and the popularity of pirates these days, except for the fact that is almost exact match to a Nazi SS skull & crossbones.

Here is a link of a closer image of the skull belt buckle. It compares it to the Skull and Bones and The Nazi Skull.

Check this thread for a very interesting video about the symbolism of skulls and crossbones. The Bohemian Bone Church is crazy...

Thanks Dr Love....after seeing this " death head", now I think its more on the lines of a "moon man' or 'sun man' with a surrounding design of some type..

Schwarzenegger Shows Off Skull Belt On TIME Cover

When you consider that he is the son of a high ranking officer in the Austrian Nazi Party, you would think Arnold would be more careful than to don such symbols as a statement of fashion. Or was the choice of a skull and crossbones an intentional one?

Left to right - Schwarzenegger belt, Nazi Deathshead Skull, Skull and Bones society logo.

Hey what about the other caption on the cover.
"Who will have the courage to be the president we need"
Let me take a shot in the dark here and say Bloomberg with Arnie as VP, assuming ofcourse (occurs)
they can ammend the Constitution.

I will probably get some chit for this, but isnt it odd that the son of a nazi stormtrooper is pictured on the cover of Time, with his arm around the Jewish mayor of New York (A.K.A. the 'capital of the world'), and the two captions are so suggestive.

That is what I was thinking. That caption is what got my eye.

"Who wil be man enough to be the next President".

I have developed a sensitivity to when I am being brainwashed, and this one of those times. I feel like socking them both!

Firstly just because someone was a member of the SA this does not mean they committed atrocities. I in no way excuse the actions of the Nazis but some otherwise decent people did join the Nazi Party, especially in annexed countries because it was a means of survival.

As Gustave Swartzenegger was in the Austrian Police when the anschluss was effected he would not have been able to continue in his job unless he joined the SA since the all police were merged into one Nazi group or another. Simple choice either continue in his job or lose it. We all have to make difficult compromises from time to time.

Of the choices available to him, the SA was the most ‘liberal’ for want of a better word. The SA was the most left-wing faction of the Nazi Party, this is why they were targeted in ‘The Night of the Long Knives’. Himmler, Goring and Goebbels engineered a plot to eradicate the SA, they forged evidence that ‘manufactured’ Hitler’s consent for the purge as they saw the SA, which at this time numbered a couple of million, with some 800,000 standing troops, as a threat to their own positions. Around 75 of their leaders were murdered in the NOTLK, which pretty much castrated their power. It is estimated that a further 400 of their more socialist supporters were killed, including Gregor Strasser, early benefactor of both Himmler and Goebbels.

At the Nuremberg Trials, both the SD and SS were found guilty of being a ‘Criminal Organisation’, the SA were found not guilty and evidence suggested that they were to a large extent victims of the Nazi regime. In my opinion unless Swartzenegger participated in any particular atrocities, of which there is no evidence to suggest that he did, he can hardly be blamed for making the decision to keep his job.

Arnold Swartzenegger actually approached the Simon Wiesenthal Center himself when allegations of his father’s past surfaced and asked them to investigate. They found no evidence and if anyone could have it is these guys.

I am no huge fan of Arnie, but I do not believe that every person in the Nazi Party was evil, some simply did the same job that they did before the war but with a different uniform. It was a unique period in history and many people had to make difficult choices. As they say ‘there but for the grace of god go I’.

Secondly the Death’s Head was the SS and SD, not the SA and there is a big difference. The Death Head that Dr Love posts was the SS emblem, the SD which was originally Hitler’s personal bodyguard differed in that it faced front and had no lower jaw.

The Bush family are a different kettle of fish altogether as without Prescott (and other notables) the Nazi war effort never would have been possible.

(11Bravo I’m not ignoring your question but I just needed to get that off my chest first, I will get back to you on that later on this evening as it takes a bit of thought on my part and I haven’t got time just now)

I wish I could get my hands on a copy of that cover. Anyone know of a higher resolution picture? Make no mistake that buckle is shown on purpose, same with the pose and angle of the shot. A photo for a Time cover takes much set up and thought, then many pictures are taken.

That entire layup on that cover is a trip.

i have to say you have a good point KilgoreTrout. Maybe Arnold's father was associated with the nazi party because the reasons you stated or maybe he wasnt, who knows.

But, I do beleive in light of arnold's backround (his father being associated with the nazi party) wearing a big belt buckle with a known nazi symbol on it probably is not the smartist thing in the world. In fact, I find it hard to beleive that when he puts it on he doesnt see any connection, let alone a photoshoot for a magazine cover.

hmmmmm........ let me see should i wear the swatstika belt with the red tie or the skull and bones belt with the green tie........???????

The problem is that Arnold is a legend in his own mind. He's detached from reality. He's milking his movie career and the dumbed-down masses think it's cool that he's their leader. The citizens of KALEEFOHNIA got owned. They voted a megalomaniac into office because of a ficticious movie character. Truly the land of fruits and nuts.

Peace

I like to point out,

he did not attend Yale, so he is not a member of Skull and Bones.

........I'm more interested in that ring

I just want to point out that there are many members of S&B that did not go to Yale. Here is a link with just a few Skull & Bones.

What is the criteria for being a subject matter expert?

Personally I think it is more likey that it is Nazi related than Skull & Bones, but they could be closely related groups anyways. I just think it's more likely that his father gave it to him or something. Why he wore it on the cover of TIME... I am going to have to go with my conpiracy related instincts on this one.

As an earlier poster pointed out, those pictures are stage managed and thought about for weeks before the shoot and the pre publish selection of any particular picture is a slow(ish) process.

You guys ever thought that it was done as a bit of a joke? a crazy publicity stunt to get people talking and get copies of the mag flying of newsstands just cos people want to check out the belt?

Maybe he forgot he had the belt on and didn't realize that it would show up in the photos? (Far fetched but possible)
And after the shoot maybe the guys at time were like hey check out the belt, thats our cover shot.

I don't get it. PEOPLE, IT IS JUST A CHROME SKULL! How does this mean anything???

Especially with the current pirate craze, this doesn't mean much.

I'm a little confused about that. Can you identify which Skull & Bones members did not attend Yale? Any on the link you provided would be fine.

I doesn't mean anything to me personally, but the fact that they're either too stupid to pick up on the possible offense somebody might take to it, or they know and don't care, either way they're not fit to lead. There's a certain amount of decorum and respect that a leader needs to have. When the people don't really care anymore, which is where we're dangerously close to standing, then we can all pack it in and kiss our butts goodbye.

Oh yes, the pirate craze!
Now Ahnold thinks he freakin' Jack Sparrow. More delusions of grandeur.

Peace

Ok, I understand that everyone wants to dig up stuff on people in high places. And because Awnold is a Republican, he's a big target for everyone. But even if it is a skull on his belt buckle doesn't mean he's skull and bones or NWO. Heck, 20 years ago my husband wore an earring with a skull and crossbones because he thought it looked cool. Bikers wear skull and crossbones. I think I may have even drawn one on my folder in high school right next to the pot leaves and upside down crosses. Didn't mean anything.

Maybe people are just looking too hard for things??? I didn't think you could be a part of S&B if you didn't go to Yale??

You guys are all very twitchy to jump on ANY politician, ANybody in power, or ANYTHING that might be, is involved in, or could possibly have anything in the small world to do with a conspiracy!

You have a problem with arnold wearing that belt buckle? I thought these forums were about civil rights, and the freedom of expression. Its Arnold Effin Schwartzeneggar you fools if anybody deserves to wear a skull and cross bones, HE DOES. Haven't you seen any of his movies?

Atleast he's a democrat! Atleast he's trying to fix california's problems! Of course you don't agree with everything he does, because you wish you were a billionare and the governer of california! Your never going to agree 100% with any politician because we all have original individual brains and its an impossibility!

ohhhh I can hear it now "But blowfish your very stupid and ignorant he's apart of the NWO and the skull and crossbones is a simbol of..."

BLAH BLAH BLAH! I happen to be a huge fan of the skull and crossbones because someday thats what every single human turnes into.. skull & bones, and the symbolism of the image dates back to FOREVER ago. Since Human's started dieing in fact (wasn't that like 200ad?
)

Get over yourselves. This post is worst then reading Entertainment weekly. "OMG HE WASN"T WEARING THE NEW PRADA?!?!"

F*ck what you wear, its a god given right to wear what you want to wear. I dont care WHO you are, and what you do for WHATEVER state. To me it just means this dude knows what he likes and truely isnt trying to bullsh*t anybody. And that is rare in politics!

maybe,

but lets say someone from from southern united states, who's family members where associated with the kkk, liked to wear a confederate flag belt buckle. Well, we could argue that the flag means this to some people and that to others,
and,
it doesn't automatically mean that person is kkk himself,
but,
it wouldnt be unreasonable to think that person may share beliefes
