Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge dropped the national terror alert level from Orange to Yellow, the level had been raised to High on Dec 21st after possible threats of a terrorist attack in America equal to or surpassing Sept 11th.This, coupled with the large gatherings of people round the festive period lead the authorities to be more careful in releasing threat information. Threats were also directed towards friendly nations, it is believed that the threat level has diminished due to the measures put in place by the Dept. Homeland Security, whether this is true or not is up to the reader.

Since the raising of the level to orange:

Security, especially for international airliners, has increased sharply under the heightened alert, forcing the cancellation or delay of several flights from Britain, France and Mexico.

The US also requested that international airlines place armed marshals on flights considered especially at risk.

Several international flights to the US were cancelled or escorted in by fighter jets over Christmas.

A Washington-bound British Airways jet was cancelled three times and delayed this week over fears it would be used in a terrorist attack.

Strange, I have the email alert and I found out on the news and here on ATS long before the alert arrived.

They are slow! What if my life depended on it?

You want slow?
Then check out the DHS page, its still listed as High(orange)

I actually watched the press conference, had some food, turned on the pc, started a movie download and wrote my own article.

Which email service was it?

Northeast Intelligence Network reports a heightened level of web and other activity while DHS says threat has diminished

www.homelandsecurityus.com...

References to strikes against and within the US, most likely preceded by a large scale attack overseas continue to be prolific. It is also important for people to fully understand that any downward adjustment of the color-coded DHS Alert system is due to economic considerations and not necessarily due to any decrease in the actual threat against our country. The threats continue... and will continue for the foreseeable future.

Further, there is a sense among analysts, based on the content of messages by "credible" sources, that future attacks will be "from unexpected" places. In other words, numerous references to diversionary measures have been found that indicate that while we are looking for (and resources are committed to preventing) an attack from the air, the real events might be unfolding on the ground. Accordingly, we urge every citizen to be watchful of their surroundings and report suspicious activity to the proper authorities immediately.

The use of aircraft against high value targets in a repeat attack has not made much operational sense, are we looking in the wrong direction ?
