Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge dropped the national terror alert level from Orange to Yellow, the level had been raised to High on Dec 21st after possible threats of a terrorist attack in America equal to or surpassing Sept 11th.This, coupled with the large gatherings of people round the festive period lead the authorities to be more careful in releasing threat information. Threats were also directed towards friendly nations, it is believed that the threat level has diminished due to the measures put in place by the Dept. Homeland Security, whether this is true or not is up to the reader.

Since the raising of the level to orange:

Security, especially for international airliners, has increased sharply under the heightened alert, forcing the cancellation or delay of several flights from Britain, France and Mexico.

The US also requested that international airlines place armed marshals on flights considered especially at risk.

Several international flights to the US were cancelled or escorted in by fighter jets over Christmas.

A Washington-bound British Airways jet was cancelled three times and delayed this week over fears it would be used in a terrorist attack.
