Coming Soon: E-Z Pass For Airport Security

www.cbsnews.com

The E-Z Pass of the air could be coming soon to an airport near you.

The registered traveler program, conceived after 9/11 as a way to speed frequent fliers through airports' long and unpredictable security lines, is finally gaining national momentum.

Though it isn't expected to be operational in enough airports to ease those jam-packed security lines for this peak flying season, it should help by next summer, when as many as 20 major airports are expected to have special security lanes.

To get an E-Z Pass, a person would have to pay a one time fee of $100 for a background check and then would be allowed to go to an "express" security line that would only take a couple minutes instead of up to an hour or more in the normal security check line.

This is in part due to the fact that the person who has obtained the pass will be ready for the security screening and would have relieved himself of everything that is not allowed to be brought onto a plane. The E-Z Pass security clearance card is also updated daily in order to maintain that all holders of the security pass remain non-threats to flights and passengers.

As long as this works as planned, I think it is a great idea. After a thorough background check that is updated daily, a person deemed a non-security threat won't have to wait in those long security lines.
