Man Describes "Flying Pillbox" in 1947 Magazine - Source?

Here's a guy in the Joplin, Missouri, Globe, July 12, 1947, describing a flying craft he saw in a "mechanic's magazine" that he thinks might explain some flying saucer sightings. It was in the February, 1942, issue. Anybody have more information about it? It sounds mighty familiar. It might be interesting to dig up the old magazine to see the original article.

You know, sometimes descriptions of these things pop up and then later the military gets a hold of them and they become classified. But they obviously can't go back and black out every newspaper in the country that described them.
