I was the Front man of a garage band during the 80's yes we were a "hair band" and many of the names listed here I tried to emulate during those years some not mentioned here would be..........

Geddy Lee

jimi hendrix

tom petty

James Hetfield

Bruce Springsteen

Stevie Ray Vaughn

Okay, I know these are all guitar weilding frontmen but they are frontmen nontheless......some "non" guitar playing frontmen not mentioned yet would be.........

Vince Neil

Don Dokken

Joe Elliott

Brian Johnson

David Coverdale

I dont think any of those would qualify as "all-time-greatest" but "Elvis" might

For my money it's hard to beat old-school Bowie.

Diamanda Galas (although obscure) deserves mention. And Morrissey was good in his prime.

Johnny Cash?

I'd have to go with Jim Morrison as the best frontman..can't think of anyone who surpasses him in the qualities required.Elton John was great too,so much charisma and showmanship, great music..second best show I've seen to Pink Floyd

FREDDY MERCURY, no doubt about that.

I DARE anyone who doesn't think so (and obviously doesn't know his work) to watch some clips in youtube...

All those previously mentioned were very capable and talented, but for my money Mick Jagger wrote the book for all the front men that followed.
