This is not a long account,
rather it is a statement that seeks corroberation
from other ATSers who may have been in NJ
on Monday night...

Around, oh, 8 or 9pm, there was a very VERY large
light due west if you were at a Jersey Shore town
with your back to the Ocean (East) looking towards the bay
(WEST).

It did not resemble any star, and it was oddly orange.

There was a smaller looking light next to it- perhaps a real star.

I also thought I saw blinking plane-type light near it.

I watched for a while, then life intervened.

I went back at midnight- now- and it is gone.

I guess the story is not great- but it is true-
and I only ask-

did anyone else see this thing on Monday night
west of Avalon and Stone Harbor NJ?

Thanks.

Hi,
Um... are you certain it wasn't a plane? If not, then how long have you watched the object? did it move when you were observing it?

I mean did it do anything that would indicate that it was a ufo?
PS: I don't live in the USA

Yes, I am sure it was not a plane.

I have been on ATS a while and never came close
to posting a strange light sighting.

Why do I think it was something... unusual?

It was fixed, never moving. (So not a plane, maybe a star?)

The color was a red-orange that was, well, unique-
never saw such a thing in all my 36 years.

The size- it was TOO large to be Venus or any other star.

I saw it, off and on, for an hour.

Then... it disappeared.

I just wish someone saw it too, just to confirm it was not normal.

Thanks.

So, that was yesterday. Go out tonight at the same time and look. I know Venus is due-West of us and I'd suspect that is what you saw. Given earth's rotation, venus is gone by 11pm. So, watch between near-dark at 9pm and 10pm and see if you get a similar view. Saturn is near Venus - I remember that from a few nights ago when I was setting up to prepare for the pass-over of the ISS and Shuttle. Venus is bright and to its upper left slightly, is Saturn much dimmer.

Orange - due to pollution, we get far more orange evening skys then before pollution. A low moon and even low planets could take-on an orange glow.

I love how Venus is always blamed for UFO sigthtings..it just looks like a STAR, how anyone could confuse it with something else is beyond imagination...

HDF, I applaud your post.
Concise, factual and (in my mind) honest.

Since I'm far South of you, I have no way
to corroborate your sighting, but I think
you have the right idea, asking for others
in the area to take a look.

Until proven otherwise, I think you have a
UFO.

Lucky man.

Regards,
Lex
