Okay,

Al Gore and other eco-fear-mongers are using groupthink to fool the population into going along with their hurtful policy.

Also, why is this forum called "fraglie Earth"? The Earth is not fraglie! Is this a why for the creators of ATS to influence our thinking on, so called, "global warming"?

Global average air temperature near the Earth's surface rose 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.3 ± 0.32 °F) during the past century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes, "most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations," which leads to warming of the surface and lower atmosphere by increasing the greenhouse effect. Natural phenomena such as solar variation combined with volcanoes have probably had a small warming effect from pre-industrial times to 1950, but a small cooling effect since 1950. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by at least 30 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. The American Association of Petroleum Geologists is the only scientific society that rejects these conclusions. A few individual scientists disagree with some of these conclusions as well.

Scientists agree the Earth's climate is being directly affected by human activity, and for many people around the world, these changes are having negative effects. Records show that 11 of the last 12 years were among the 12 warmest on record worldwide.

The just-released Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Summary for Policy Makers — the first volume of the IPCC's 4th Assessment Report — states that scientists are more than 90% confident that human industrial activity is driving global temperature rises.

Carbon dioxide levels today are nearly 30 percent higher than they were prior to the start of the Industrial Revolution, based on records extending back 650,000 years.

According to NASA, the polar ice cap is now melting at the rate of 9 percent per decade. Arctic ice thickness has decreased 40 percent since the 1960s.

Examples of observed climatic changes

Increase in global average surface temperature of about 1°F in the 20th century

Decrease of snow cover and sea ice extent and the retreat of mountain glaciers in the latter half of the 20th century

Rise in global average sea level and the increase in ocean water temperatures

Likely increase in average precipitation over the middle and high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, and over tropical land areas

Increase in the frequency of extreme precipitation events in some regions of the world

Examples of observed physical and ecological changes

Thawing of permafrost

Lengthening of the growing season in middle and high latitudes

Poleward and upward shift of plant and animal ranges

Decline of some plant and animal species

Earlier flowering of trees

Earlier emergence of insects

Earlier egg-laying in birds

Unfortnatley, Al Gore didn't make it all up to score political points as you can see from data collected by The IPCC and NASA among others.

It's seems to be a sad symptom of the human condition that we live in a state of denial while destroying the planet that has granted us life.

If we continue to bury our heads in the sand, and present this very real threat to our environment as political point scoring, then humanity will surely meet the fate it deserves.

Climate change is happening, but is has NOTHING TO DO WITH CO2. That side of the argument is entirely politically motivated, because it will allow governments to take even more freedoms away from us..

The climate is changing on all other planets in our solar system..

The Sun reaches its Solar Maximum in 2012..

Various indigineous peoples have predicted the "end of time" as 2012..

Go figure..

What? Run and hide. Skeptic is going to be coming for you for that assertion.

Um. Global warming is real, other than the argument of semantics, like who's responsible is inconsequential. Ice is melting everywhere. Hint. Hint.

ATS does not create the content in the Fragile Earth forum, the members do, and the forum is a venue to discuss a multitude of issues, which happen to include climate change and global warming.

If you have a problem with the content in that or any forum, you are free to post your opposing theories, information links and opinions.

The content is entirely up to you, and all of the members and staff of this community. The forum itself would not be there if there was not a very strong demand for it.

Warming is a natural cycle this planet goes thorough and then some cooling follows and so on. Big changes like ice age and similar are occuring every 10.000-30.000 years, nothing to worry about right now.

It's easy to use this data for needless panic, followed by some agenda. If they are so concerned about global warming, why are they suppressing zero-point energy systems? Heh, it's always same old recipe: fear + our resolution resulting in less freedom and never any real solution. Sadly, people always listen to those who spread fear.

Al Gore won't get my vote for sure.

It is true the earth is not fragile, it has already put up quite a bit of abuse and will likely be around even if we are not. I think there are some definate changes coming about, the earth is very polluted. I do not know what to think about Al Gore, but he did make some great points(even if he was in it for his own purposes). Somethings are going to change, like it or not.

What a compelling argument! I shall discontinue my membership to ATS immediately.

Thank you for providing such a sound analysis.

Another sound scientific conclusion! Bravo!

I'll sleep much better now.

OP, you have it backwards. People are using ATS to deny GW because it is a political hot bed. I'm sure we will have invented a way to solve food shortages in a few years when farming becomes to unreliable while the populating continues to expand. Plants and plankton are major carbon sinks on the planet. We are paving over the planet, a lot in forested area. The oceans are in trouble so how much carbon is the plankton able to stash away. We are digging up and pumping out billions of pounds/kilograms of planetary sequestered carbon and combining it with oxygen. Where do you think the excess is going?

As for this board, it's becoming one big whack job! I've been on it for 3 years and I've seen it go from a serious discussion of what's wrong with the world and UFO accountings to mostly arguments from people that watch too much Fox new!

Actually, it isn't. That measurement was in error. If you check more current sources, you'll see that the solar system isn't undergoing warming.

The Sun reaches its Solar Maximum in 2012..

For this cycle. Remember that it's on an 11 year cycle, so that's only the solar maximum for this cycle. Last one was in 2001, then 1990... and so on back through 5 billion years.

Various indigineous peoples have predicted the "end of time" as 2012.

The only "indigenous peoples" prediciting the "end of time" are American writers who are paranormal researchers.

The Mayans said it would be the end of the 5th Age (and, since they had dates further in the future carved on stones then they presumably expected a 6th age and so on.) No other people found that year significant.
