When is China going to build a Aircraft Carrier?

I believe they surely must have a carrier. Whats a future 200 million man military without some carriers to get closer to threat nations and for strategic defense of your assets?

About chinese new "weapon systems" they are some low-tech tub compared to the US naval carriers.China has no threat in her region that she cannot deal without the aircraft carrier.

The Indians are supposed to have 290 million millitary.What about the Kiev class aircraft carrier India bought?(Admiral Gorsh...something)
In my opinion I think they should spend that money on their people instead of making a carrier that's outdated anyway.
The chinese are just paranoid are too eager to matter. Ultimately they want the whole world to admire them (Egomaniacs i would say) and marvel at their brilliance because they believe that they were wronged in some way in the past.

Back on topic you do also realise that China is forecast to become the worlds biggest shipbuilding nation over the next 5 years with new Ports in construction all the time and current one's being upgraded to deep water facilities. e.g Shanghai

There is no reason to think that the Chinese with the best equiped and largest port base in the world could not build a world class aircraft carrier.

I love the United States and its people but if some of the people who lack any of the humility and have all the arrogance that some demonstrate here are commanding US Carrier Battlegroups, then a lot of men and women serving the stars and stripes are gonna unfortunately pay for it.

I thought I'd have to see a Forrestal scuttled as a fish reef before I saw a US Super Carrier sinking. But I get the uncomfortable impression that if the right circumstances came about overblown pride might sink an active service one someday.

The US is technologically superior, but never discount careful planning, execution and a degree of luck.

China should not waste money on aircraft carriers. They have a 'brown water' navy which is meant for coastline defence and they do not have the means of protecting this asset. Only blue water asset they have (i dont know, correct me if im wrong) is a SLBM capable nuclear submarine..??
India onn the other hand has an aircraft carrier, and has had at least one for a long time. Support ships that are indigeniously built escort it at all times. Hence Inida has a blue water navy Although they should use it for 'power projection' more often!! . Indians whoop chinese conventionally anytime!!

Every nation has a right to defend itself so that it doesnt need to 'hide behind somebody else's skirt' E.g: singapore, South Korea, Japan..if you get my drift.India has had aircraft carriers for the last 30 years at least and we intend to keep them.

The former HMAS Melbourne, a 1940s modernised Majestic Class Light Carrier arrived in mainland China in 1985 to be broken up.

Like the later Russian carriers sent to the wreckers there, she is rumored to have been tested, measured and mapped within an inch of her old life by PLA-N experts to establish the basics required to build an aircraft carrier

Rumors persisted as recently as the late 1990s that her hulk had been seen on US sat photos lingering in some backwater corner of a PLA-N base.

Maybe Varyag will end up in commission, even as a training platform. After all, ships in worse shape or less demand have been returned from the grave......Pearl Harbour's old Battlewagons post 1941 and the USS Cole more recently . A senior US Admiral was on record in "The Navy" that the Cole was so badly damaged that constructively she should have been scrapped but it was a matter of pride and a demonstration of determination to return her to the colours.

Also a RN Type 42 destroyer visiting Australia several years ago severely holed herself on rocks off Norfolk Island. A joint RN/RAN effort successfully refloated her and she was towed back to Sydney.

She was subsquently sealifted back to the UK and the decision taken to repair her as she was one of the newer batch ships and it was thought essential to do the job....again partially from the point of view of national pride and service morale.

You don't need to capture 3/4 of the world if you have to be powerfull. Even though the British empire was monumental it was formed by deceit and opportunistic imperialists, that why they came to america for help when the Third Reich came knocking on their doors. America had to save their necks or they would all be "hailing HITLER" .You would never find america asking any country to help defend america form an aggressor. Now even though China builds a ship the size of NYC it takes more than a huge tub to make an aircraft carrier. We have got the planes, the experience, the technology and the best sailors in the world. No one can attain that level of superiority by just building many ports which can build big ships. To be on top you have to be an innovator , china only hopes to match up to american standards which it has no hope of doing because they don't have the experience nor the tech to accomplish this feat. America has taken nearly fifty years to make today's carriers what the are, do you really think that a country can just build one overnight!!

America has lasted more than 300 years i know it won't last forever as america's exsistence is not a totality. But i am sure what america stand for will lasts for ever.

Even if China developed a carrier, it would mean nothing compared with the U.S.'s 12 or so supercarriers. One Chinese carrier would probably not even hold as much as one of ours. So, unless they are trying to show off, militarily it would mean very little for American forces in the area. Hell, one U.S. carrier would put a serious dent in the PLAF. So it isn't that big of a deal if they want a carrier.

Actually several nations have had similar influence in the world. The chinese and romans empires are two examples.
Internet was a result of an Englishman "Tim Berners-Lee" who created the foundations and the whole system the used today. The millitary network you are referring to has very little in comon to the internet of today... it was simply a connection of phone lines.
The lightbulb was invented in 1809 by Humphry Davy, an English chemist. Davy connected two wires to a battery and attached a charcoal strip betwween the other ends of the wires. The charged carbon glowed making the first arc lamp. The only thing edison contributed was commercial development... in fact it was not even him who made the US discovery, it was a guy who worked for him.

Best sailors is of course subjective... any proof that the US has the best seamen? They are well equiped no doubt, but as India proved it by no means makes them the best.
China has made leaps and bounds over the past 30 years... they do not need to spend 50 years researching and developing when they can simply buy the technology needed and than expand upon it. Look at their telecommunications network... it is the largest and most advanced in the world. Also consider the amount of FDI going into the country. Everything they need is already established in their country. World class silicon chip makers, high tech materials etc

best sailors? hmm i think the austrailian and british perisher courses might have something to say about that.
now let me see best trained captains in the ocean at least nuclear boat captains and of course that makes our captains inferior to yours?

also your 50 years of carriers is a bit stupid, firstly jets didnt appear untill end of ww2 and proper carrier versions didnt reach until what the 50's? and even then they were sub sonic.
also you have the biggest carriers big deal the bigger the carrier the bigger the target. you knnow a kilo can disable a carrier in the right conditions and thats with the carrier being ready and prepped for war and with the battle group ready to go. know how? one single torp on the prop. that carrier will most likely have drive shaft damage and cause it to be in refit for months. hell if needed just use a nuke on them and the group will be decimated. also your great ASW units use sinking helicopters. by sinking i mean no bouyancy in them.

I think the first british carrier was eventually sold to the netherlands... I was reading about it and how the British opted for steel decks and structural strength, over quicker cheaper wooden decking.
