Pelosi, Reid to announce new push to end Iraq war

www.politico.com

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) are expected tomorrow to announce a new coordinated effort to force votes in July to end the Iraq war, according to Democratic insiders.

Reid has already publicly declared that Senate Democrats will offer four Iraq-related amendments to the upcoming 2008 Defense authorization bill, including a proposal by Reid and Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) to set a firm timetable to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq by next spring.

It is nice to see the Democrats--or anyone in Washington, for that matter--standing up for what they actually believe. It will be interesting to see what happens with this bill.

Some of the surge troops have just arrived in Iraq, and they're already calling the surge a failure.:shk: Everybody would like to see our troops back home, but stick with the plan, please! One reason we've had so much trouble over there is because politicians have been allowed to run the show.

September has been the date that most people have been working with; that's when Petraeus will issue his report. But the upcoming election is making the Democratic leadership act irresponsibly once again.

Democratic leadership?

Jumbo shrimp, what?

The Democrats in Congress (to differentiate them from Democrat civilians) have already shown their hand. They have no intention of pulling us out of Iraq. If they did they would have done so when they had the chance... they would have cut funding. All they are doing is playing the polls.

Armchair Quarterbacks and Tuesday Night statisticians are profoundly more accurate in hindsight ... the problem being that the game is already over by the time we're afforded their input. (?)

How about letting the REAL game see the final seconds on the clock, prior to declaring win or lose. (?)

A plan was put forth and accepted, why not wait and see whether it achieves the stated goals, prior to passing judgement? ... or at least prior to calling the game. (?)

While things may not be as we were led to expect or anticipate, there are Many positive efforts you won't hear about or see on the 6 o'clock sNEWze.

No wonder Congress has a 14% approval rating. How many stupid bills are these people going to propose until they come up with something good for America?

Failed Bills so far...

Embryonic Stem Cell Research
Immigration
Allowing Partial Birth abortion
Timetable for withdrawal
Congressional Pay Raises

I can't think of any worthwhile legislation yet from these people.

And the above has what relevance to the topic of discussion? Honestly!?

While I have no affinity for how the aforementioned issues have been dealt with, what the hell have they to do with

» Breaking Alternative News » Pelosi, Reid to announce new push to end Iraq war » Post Reply (?)

Unless, of course, one has an axe to grind and cares not for where they do so. (?)

'twould seem quite transparent, RR ... to say the least.

Pointing out one piece of failed legislation after another is relevant.

America has just dodged funding Embryonic stem cell research, and just dodged a terrible immigration bill, and now these super brainiacs want to legislate defeat in Iraq.

When will they come up with some decent legislation?

HOW? When the topic is Pelosi, Reid to announce new push to end Iraq war?

America has just dodged funding Embryonic stem cell research,

Yep. They sure did, by a republican encumberance nonetheless. (?)

and just dodged a terrible immigration bill,

No doubt, but their counterparts weren't necessarily offering a true resolve either. (?)

When will they come up with some decent legislation?

I find myself asking the same on both accounts. (?) When will They come together for the betterment of ALL?

Unfortunately, I've come to the sole resolve that neither has the best interests of Our Nation [country] in mind ... only furthering said divisive agendas, in my opinion.

Pretty much everyone else in the world accepts that US intervention in Iraq has already been defeated. Just some people still haven't caught up with the reality.

How do you define victory ?

Bombings increase month by month. Iran is more and more involved in Iraqi insurgency and the US Government has no solution in sight. Please tell us what kind of victory you anticipate ?

The truth is that the continuation of the war in Iraq suits the Democratics down to a tee. I have no doubt that the Democratics will continue to make shallow attempts to end the war in Iraq. The Dems want to use the Iraq issue to win in 08.

It looks like that the people who could be counted on to support the war are now having a change of heart see this thread .

BTW this thread should be moved to the breaking news forum on AP.

That being so, then don't you think GW Bush is giving them a wonderful platform to expose the republicans to ridicule and contempt ?

Don't other Republicans see Dubya as a huge election liability ?

At some point those Republicans with any sense need to cut Bush adrift.

Yep the problems in Iraq are in part largely the coalition making the foolish mistake of unleashing a war that they don't have the resources to win military.
