Iam glad to hear this is over and ended peacefully.I do not agree with Radical actions such as this, however action needs to be taken to deal with the issues the Natives of Six Nations Have presented. Constantly Wondering, here is a link for you about Dudley George- www.cbc.ca...
And the history of Oka- history.cbc.ca...

Whoa bub... save the USA from their threats....lol.....HA HA HA HA Canada... you'd be taken over by France if you didn't have the USA as a neighbor. Thats not an insult...but a geopolitical and military FACT.

...and people wonder why our American cousins are so well regarded both at home and abroad...

If you investigate the geopolitical facts, you'll also note that we beat both the French and the Americans. Have a nice day.

I see you are new here, so Iam going to put this politely.
#1 the reason for this thread has nothing to do with France or whether it can take over Canada.
#2 For the most part ATS has members all over the world and we treat each other with respect despite our geographical differences.Perhaps you should search the boards for a more appropriate place to put your views open for debate. This is not the thread for it.

For the people who called the natives terrorists, either you have
been misinformed or you are really ignorant.
These people are not terrorists they just want to be heard.
Do you call animal rights groups who protest for a better living
environment for the animals terrorists?
Do you call the people who protest against the war on terror
terrorists?
I come from people who have lost their land (Assyrians) so therefore
I know how the natives feel. If that makes me a terrorist for backing
them up, than what does that make the people who protest for your rights? or the animal activists?
or the people who fight for their sons and daughters
to come home from Iraq, terrorists? If that does make them
terrorists then we all have a little terrorist inside of us.

DisabledVet: Um... yeah. Thanks for saving us in that war where France tried to take over Canada. WTF? You're not even worth my time. Goodbye.

As for ConstantlyWondering ... its good you have an open mind (and I highly recommend both Sleeman and Alexander Keith's ... Finest beers in all of Canada IMO ;-)

Hi all.

Personally, I am of the mind that if you are witness to an unjust law, it is your responsibility as a conscientious citizen to either attempt to reform said unjust law or break said unjust law if attempts at reform are for naught. That is, I think, what the natives are trying to do, by bringing attention to their plight. They are not 'terrorists' by any stretch but are just saying 'enough is enough', again.

They have been oppressed and suppressed from day one - predominantly by back-stabbing - and they have been 'given' the worst land possible and even that too is to be taken from them if our government has their way. This isn't right. Besides, 'our' government is in the pockets of the corporations and the 'PNACky and the Brainless' Saturday morning cartoon going on in the world today anyway, and reflect the mentality of a very very small amount of Canadians.

Canada is a melting pot of nationalities, and all are welcomed as brothers. I am of Finnish descent personally (and look at myself as just a sandblasted Indian anyway) but am first and foremost a Canadian, as regards nationality. We have on our collective conscience the degradation of a noble people, the Cree, Mohawk, Ojibway, Inuit, etc - so I too say 'enough is enough'.

So, personally, I'm on the side of the natives, and wish them well in their struggle.

Oh ya, our beer rocks, our chicks rock, our herb rocks. Canadians rock. Have a happy Canada day all !!

You know...that just about sums it up, doesn't it?

To our American cousins...c'mon up and have a beer. And a Happy 4'th of July as well.

I claim both. But we are overcoming the ignorance right now as I read the info that Access and a few others have posted or sent me via U2U. Please forward anything that you consider helpful in educating me on the facts and history Equinox99.

One of the best posts I've read in here so far.Love the Sandblasted comment.I too sometimes feel more white on the outside and red on the inside than most.I have 9 Cree families in my community, and we used to live in Ojibway country. My family still lives there.I too say "enough is enough".And yeah, our beer rocks (sorry not into the herb) but Iam a Canadian Chick and I do Rock!( sorry to get off topic there)

Constantly Wondering here is a link for you to check out...

Kelowna Accord

It is the agreement that our former Prime Minister signed in principle and that our current Prime Minister rejected.

Story

For those who won't read it, the Accord was a deal that was to allocate 5.1 billion dollars to fix native land claims and help improve the third world like conditions that alot of reserves were facing. Harper, in opposition, voted against it. Then when they won the election, there first budget allocated 151 million dollars to the problem, compared to the 800 million the original accord would have dedicated to the problem.

These people ARE NOT terrorists. They are people who have been abused by our government for a long time. I'm not sure if these were posted, I thought they were but it may have been in another thread. Some history of our countries treatmnet of Natives

Residential Schools

A small snippet about water quality from Saskatchewan story This problem is pretty consistent throughout Canada. Another link

Here's something a little different, it is some of the history of the Oka Crisis of 1990 in Quebec

Oka

To put it into terms that Americans may understand; think of it as something akin to the civil rights movement in your country in the '60's

no problem, my 'special technique' was ctrl X and ctrl V, lol

good post gao, it is indeed a story that is quashed by mainstream media, but if you live here its difficult not to see it, and if you're george w harper, you DEFINITELY cannot see it - due in large part to having his colon for a hat I think.

You obviously did not read my post. I did not call members of the First Nations community terrorists. Those following the requests of their duly elected leaders to excercise restraint have my respect.

Mr. Bryant on the other hand is nothing short of a domestic terrorist inciting a few to act in a reckless manner. They have not done so at this time, but I know that the residents of Caledonia which has been blockaded over a year don't have much use for him. Neither do I.

All he wants is his cause, and martyrdom in the process if it comes to that. He reminded our police that they were armed at the blockades so you figure it out. Civil Rights movement or a Waco standoff? You pick, the guy is bad news.

A small snippet about water quality from Saskatchewan

So please account for the 10 billion annually paid to First Nations. Is it simply to build casinos, or fancy houses for band leaders. Follow the money! Oh, wait. You can't! Neither can any Canadian! There is no accountability built into it. We hand over the cash. They spend it. No strings. Would the US government operate like that??

Here's something a little different, it is some of the history of the Oka Crisis of 1990 in Quebec

We won't even open this Pandora's box. A police officer died too!

It is definite that I will be doing my studying before I post on these matters. Thank you all again for the info and keep this thread alive with the developments. The US news is not reporting as well as ATS!
