That is the latest from the unconfirmed reports about a C-5 transport plane. "Initial reports indicate the incident is the result of hostile action from the ground but the type of weapon and other details are unknown," the US Air Force's Air Mobility Command has said in a statement.

Possibly, sources say it was a surface-to-air missile attack. This come right after reports of a Black Hawk helicopter, on a medical evacuation mission crashing near Falluja.

"Excessive engine vibration" was the comment for why the plane was routed back to Baghdad. If it was actually a surface-to-air missile, one would think it would be more akin to "engine missing and/or on fire".

A big U.S. military cargo jet may have been hit by a missile before it made an emergency safe return to Baghdad airport with 63 passengers and crew on Thursday, a U.S. military official said.
