SHARM EL-SHEIK, Egypt - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Monday he will release 250 Fatah members from Israeli prisons in a goodwill gesture aimed at strengthening Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas after Hamas' victory in Gaza.

Things look like they are moving along nicely.

This "may" turn into some real advancements and "maybe" even peace.

Unfortunately their intentions are not so good as you interpret. These are just Fatah members. They are not the regular men, woman and children being held/tortured in jails by Israel. There is always an underlying reasoning for what they do and it surely is not for the benefit of the Palestinian people and their families but for Israel itself. Doctors, Teachers, lawyers as well as other important civilians are still being held captive in Israeli jails. They should release them first if they wish to see an improvement in Palestinian life and not people who will just be their puppets.

is it the start and end of all, no

What it is, is another step in the right direction.

There is talk of restarting the peace talks-with Fatah

What really sadens me is that some people can not be happy for each step-even baby steps- towards peace.

Nothing will ever be perfect, that said, each step forward is better than standing still or moving backwards.

Some complain it is not near enough,I say, every little bit better is a little bit better.

Peace is fine. No one is complaining about steps towards peace but the important thing is if the people representing them have their intentions in mind or the intentions of the other party. Israel holds a majority of the resources and land. The Palestinians should not be burdened weith settlements, walls and private roads encroaching on their land. Something also must be done about the ridiculous way the Palestinian country is partitioned into 2 seperate areas. They should not have to pass through Israel to get to the West Bank or Gaza. Some type of road must be built thats not under Israeli influence.

The wall doesnt have to be taken down but it does have to be placed on or nehind Israeli territory and not on Palestinian lands.

This kind of reaction is a clear example of what mentality has stopped peace as of yet.

Instead of looking for peace and ways to live together, "some" people only want to view what is not yet to their likes.

Perhaps if the murdering Muslim "extremists stopped killing, stopped shooting guns/rockets at their neighbor, there WOULD be NO need for the extreme measures currently used to control the terrorist.

People don't want to realize, their constant acts of war only begets acts of war on them.

Fattah and it's leader seem to be the only group that claims to be in charge of the area and actually wants peace-as Hams still has it in it's version of a constitution-
- that Israel should be destroyed and all it's citizens murdered.

Perhaps if they changed their tune, they would be treated as people and not the murdering terrorist that they are.

You are a hypocrite. You say The Muslims are murdering , yet the Jews have been just as murderous and in recent decades its gotten worse.

Pavil posted an excellent non-biased source for the origins of the Palestinian/ Israeli conflict on mideastweb.org maybe you should read it.
