I just caught the tail end of a program on the history channel.

It drew together threads of biblical predictions with relation to Iraq which i wouldn't have found credible just a year ago, but now as a nuclear conflict with Iran beckons and Iran backs Shia militias in Iraq (Babylon) it suddenly becomes quite interesting.

Please would members more familiar with these predictions spell out the guts of them here for the rest of us ?

It commented on something like Babylon being raised up four times or four kingdoms of Babylon.

In the same context Saddam seems portrayed for his attempts to rebuild Iraq as a modern Babylon. Any comments, observations or theories ?

hmmm, sunday morning?

from what i found 'Babylon' can mean a City or a territory (as in mesopotamia)

babylon can be a literal thing or place, or else mean a figurative or symbolic concept...

babylon in one definition means confusion
babylon also meant 'The Gate of God' to several cultures

there's plenty of links in the search criteria; [city of babylon, predictions]
which address pretty much all the different ways that 'babylon' might mean

but i found the semi-academic treatment of a babylon info here;
www.newadvent.org...
as more enlightening than the subjective interpetations of the different meanings of babylon found
in Isaiah 13,14 or revelation 17,18 or jeremiah 50,51....

one could spend countless hours chasing ones tail in trying to rationalize
the ?truth? and still not get a 100%, for sure, life guiding truth of just what the bible authors actually meant by 'babylon' at any particular time

i draw your attention to one of the links on the Google search,,,,

Iraq in Prophecy?- Modern Babylon?
[....misleading the ignorant masses for higher TV ratings and book sales. ]
www.bible.ca...

sunday, ahh, the 4th round of the golf tourney
that's whats sunday's are good for

If you are interested in a Biblical prediction about Babylon I would read the books of Jeremiah 50 and 51 and Isiah 13.

These prophesies are being fulfilled right now.

Thanks for the links St udio. One comparing modern Iraq looks like it is three years old. It is interesting that it notes invasion from the north. (Iranian backed shia insurgency ?)

Thanks Sunmatrix. This will astound you but I do have a Bible and will read with interest. I tend to agree with you that current events with Iraq and Iran could be the unfurling of these predictions.

As I think I said in my OP, a year ago I wouldn't have agreed, but tension with Iran and Al Qaeda could very well lead to a nuclear armageddon.

If so then I suppose it could be seen as a cleansing. Cheers.
